More Breighton from Saturday

What a fantastic find. My first visit to Breighton, and definitely not my last. Brilliant weather produced some great photo opportunities which I’ve done my best to take advantage of.
A special thanks to Simon, for allowing me a very close look at his Yak!
Here’s my photos, starting with some flour bombing:

The final format of the show worked out really well, everyone who took part and put it together were pleased as punch and really enjoyed themselves – which is what it’s all about. (Shame I couldn’t pull off my F-16 plan – maybe next summer!) These pictures really do the weekend justice, nice to see some of the lesser known types that took part too. Well done!

Great shots, in particular the headon Chipmunk ribbon pickup. The last pic of the Hungarian Gazelle – “boring” as the subject may be – is a great shot too!

The comment about copying Old Warden was a bit of light heated humour. I know its been going on for years. I personaly think the ribbon pick up is the most spectaculor.

Are they trying to impersonate Old Warden with the flour bombing and barnstorming? 🙂 😀

Ollie, as GASML has allready said. Old Wardens Barnstorming slot is a dirrect copy of “The barnstormers Flying Circus” act that was done for 30 years from the late 60’s. We did it several times at OW but they then said that it didnt fit in with the feel of OW only to do their own version a few years later. At the end of the day nothing is new, the Barnstormers was set up by my father and like minded pilots in the late 60’sto try and recreate somthing of the “Alan Cobham” feel of airshow. In the 70’s and 80’s they traveled the length and bredth of the UK and Europe, turning up at an airfield and putting on a whole show from start to finish

Thank you all for your comments. I just want to agree with what’s been said by others here and elsewhere, this may have not been the biggest airshow this weekend, but I wouldn’t have swapped places with anyone in those Gloucestershire crowds and traffic queues!!!

Great shots! And the weather was co-operating as well. What equipment do you use?

I use a now obsolete Canon D60 with a Canon 100-400IS lens which I have recently bough to replace my Sigma 50-500.

Airliners shots

Simon – great shots of yours on Airliners.net – its obvious you have a lot of skill and knowledge in this field of photography – not to mention the time and money spent engaging your passion

Will save your airliners shots as a favourite and keep looking thru em – looks like there is a whole bunch !!

Breighton Pics

Great shots and a good representation of what flew – particularly like the shot of Janie tucking her gear up , nice shot of P51 Suzy – noteable fact that you can have a flight in her for £ 700 for half an hour “Chock to Chock “

Something very special about Breighton that makes you want to return – yesterday was my 3rd year on the trot

I rather like the Cubs aproach to flour bombing. It seems they are working together to hit the target.

I think you’ll find that the people doing the Barnstorming started with that long before Odl Warden!!

Blue Max was doing the ribbon pick-ups with the Chipmunk, something that his Dad was a bit of a master of, in the days of the original Barnstormers Flying Circus in the 1960s!! 😀
