Yet another thread seems to be missing (ie the one discussing supprise supprise – a missing thread). No discussion? No attempt to talk over the issue.. just a hatchet job. It seems as though there is a war of wills going on here that utimately nobody will win. Really sad.

Precisely my point.
Half the complainers are unhappy that I haven’t recommended a separate photo forum, the other half are unhappy because of this post in which I stated my actual view
I’d personally like nothing more than to stick the photo threads into a ghetto, but it isn’t the mods role to take that sort of decision.
Around half the people are apparently happy to retain the pictures here.

A small apology will be graciously accepted along with a pint at OW tomorrow. 🙂

Which was?
That you wanted no change. Which at that point was exactly what you got. Whether there will be a dedicated airshow/photograph forum in future I don’t know. But at that time that was the poll you posted and the way it was worded gave the answer you wanted. Isn’t it a common tactic used when you want the answer directed in your favour?

This is SO puerile … but captivating in the same way Brad and Jen’s latest cover on (name your magazine) is … ie. idle rubblish to thumb through whilst waiting for the jug to boil. For a while there I thought these wee tantrums were genuine moans, now I realise the protagonists enjoy them. This does them no good at all. Most, if not all, of you are people whose opinions on aviation and related matters I respect. Are you all asking me to excise that respect? Please, please people … dismount from those very high horses and let it go. Just let it go. There’s absolutely no doubt at all that we will all forget and life will carry on.

Rob.
Your poll for a photographic forum was constructed in such a way that you received the answer you wanted to hear.

Rob.
With all due respect you are guilty yourself of twisting things to suit your own point of view. Your poll for a photographic forum was constructed in such a way that you received the answer you wanted to hear. I asked the straightforward yes or no question which got an overwhelming positive response and you locked the thread because it contradicted your views. That is not moderation, the automatic gainsaying of something you personally don’t want to hear.
I have expressed my views privately to the webmaster and the concerns I have about a moderator being in that position.which The reasons I outlined privately to the webmaster are still of concern to me.
You may note that I do occasionally discuss aviation, memorialisation and remembrance, or you may choose to concentrate on the fact that I have strong views on moderation and what I consider to be the abuse of that position by moderators.

You mean six or seven people carrying on a perpetual crusade for a ‘level playing field’ and the other several thousand getting on and discussing aviation?
Good point well made.
Moggy
So you really think it’s only six or seven people making a fuss?
Good point well made too I think.
I think it’s time a number of you stood up and got counted–afraid of something?

We are not the bad guys here, we really do not get a kick by banning people or deleting posts. Personally I would much rather prefer a quiet happy forum where deleted posts and banned members are but a distant memory.
Take it easy everyone
Webmaster
Well then it’s simple.
If you ain’t the bad guys and the moderators are so sure they’re so popular why don’t they suggest that they stand for re-election? After all, if someone is so sure of themselves they should be confident of getting re-elected.
However, I’m far from convinced that certain moderators have much confidence in that event and therfore prefer dictatorship. You see most people should never be given power of any kind–it’s a dangerous substance.
You can see the result of it here.

Webmaster.
Thank you for your consideration. It is appreciated. I’m sure if we could move to a level playing field things would improve. I believe you have to accept that there are problems among the moderating team as it stands. I have made my opinion clear to you before. This forum is too precious to lose as it is such a fantastic repository of information.
Thank you again for your openness. Let us hope that increasing dialogue can resolve some of the problems the forum currently faces.

So, to reflect this new spirit of openness and dialogue would you reconsider removing the ban from Robbo while a civil discourse continues which I am sure we would all prefer? This dialogue with you, the Webmaster, is something which we are all no doubt grateful for, and something which was sadly lacking in the past.
Robbo was banned for personal attacks against one of the moderators and despite my request to stop, continued to bring this vendetta to the forum. I realise this particular argument has been going on for a long time and it is time for it to stop. I will think about it.

It is not the ideas that have been the problems, it is when some come in with all guns blazing demanding things and then start posting flames when they are not met. There are ways and means to get your message accross. This has been the primary reason why previous threads have been removed. It was I who removed the last post and the reason was I could not risk leaving active with the potential for flames while not monitored or the situation which happened today occurs. (it happened anyway but I tried). The difference between this one and the previous threads is this is a dialgue. The others were not.

More abuse? AIB- what happened to trying to be the “voice of reason”??
What proof do any of you have the mod you attack has actually done any of these things? See, it’s called innocent until proven guilty. And none of you have proven anything.
Mods- this is another abusive attack on Flood and should be deleted. Please. What has Flood done that he deserves this?
-Erin
Hey Erin,
You want to know what David(Flood) has done simple he attacked Steve over on the GD board calling all of us Yanks a bunch of Jerks ect. ect. if you would like I could repost the whole thread since I saved it in my hard drive. I step in and defend Steve and what did I get out of it for my troubles I got Booted and what happen to David nothing he should have been booted also like I’ve said in the past there seems to be a double standerd when it comes to certain folks on this board, untill that problem is addresed by those in charge then we are going to still have this on going problem.
So Erin you need to take a step back and look at the other side of the picture and not the one you see threw your rose color glasses.
I’m guessing this is going to get me into some more hot water but hey whats new someone needs to call a spad a spad.

…..However, this is a discussion forum. There is no particular reason why standards of moderation should not be discussed, though I, for one, would now shift this to GD.
Moggy
But that’s been precisely the problem. No explanations will be given, the decision of the moderators is final and it seems irrevocable. Then when people disagree about a standard of moderation the threads have been locked or disappeared. By deleting such posts/threads how can you say that standards of moderation can be discussed? That has not been the case until webmaster has allowed this thread to stay open today.
Move it where you like, but if the Moderators and Webmasters are now open to the idea of listening to those expressing discontent, keep the thread civil and above all, keep it open.

In my opinon there was no need for Steve to post his thread in the first place it would have been better sent out in a PM to those who had contacted him. All it could do is stir up old arguments
I think that was the point of his post.

When we voted the moderators in we obviously did not expect this situation to occur, and when authority of any kind has no popular support, it is surely untenable? Regular (annual?) elections would go a long way towards bringing back a popular mandate for those entrusted with smoothing the waters
I was thinking along the same lines Damien.
JDK and Jeepman I agree with your posts.
As JDK has said ‘one earns respect by one’s own behaviour’. Acting like kids squabbling because you don’t get your own way does no one any good. Can we not put this all to bed know and just get on with what were supposed to be here for? If all this winds you up to much perhaps this forum is playing to much of a role in your life? I thought all this had been put behind us a little while ago.
In my opinon there was no need for Steve to post his thread in the first place it would have been better sent out in a PM to those who had contacted him. All it could do is stir up old arguments which it has done. Nothing personal just my opinon. Moderators feel free to moderate this last bit if you like.

Point taken, I will keep this thread open.
Webmaster
I have a suspicion that this thread will either be locked or binned shortly…
Please DON’T!
While it might help to keep the board all neat and tidy, I suspect that enabling people to vent their frustrations here is the lesser of the two evils… If this thread goes, then the first thought is censorship, conspiracy and a clique-y few interfering with the thoughts of others…
By: RobAnt - 6th August 2005 at 17:52
A “bad post” reporting mechanism, in my experience, works better than named moderators. Bad post removal should be done without comment, and further posts concerning post removals should be removed (or edited) – also without comment by the owner/webmaster(s) only.
This way “troublemakers” soon disappear, or start behaving themselves if they want to contribute meaningfully.
This particular forum seemed to work so much better before this moderator lark came into being.
This is not to say I am taking offence at any moderator or member of the board. They are simply my points of view.
This is, and will remain, the only post I make on this subject. I haven’t spoken before, and I won’t speak about it again.

Look on any forum and you will find this kind of thread – I have just watched a model heli forum self destruct because of a few people, and the webbie retaliated by banning. Had he done nothing then the whole thing would have blown over.
Please, tread lightly>.. 🙁

So what was this deleted thread about?
Can I ask, do you lot all know each other in real life?
Jay
Depends on which one you are talking about.
Yes a great many of the people who contribute to the forums on a regular basis either meet up regularly or are in close communication.
