It would appear the GSM LPL-JFK service will be cut to 4 a week, due to very poor loads. http://tinyurl.com/37dsnw

The average load factor for May (granted in only started at the end of the month) was just over 30%… not exactly brilliant.

wasnt it just one particular flight that only had 26 passengers rather than an average ?

Nowt to do with poor loads. Its all down to GSM achieving the unachievable and screwing up their operations even worse than FlyBe have.
How anyone in their right mind can make a booking with either airline at the moment is beyond me. BA’s dreadful LHR operation shines in comparison!
Average of 26 pax per sector, all in cattle class, won’t help. However agree fully with your comments, except Flybe havent got a patch on GSM 😀 😀 🙁

Liverpool to New York is potentailly a good route to offer. Liverpool attracts many U.S tourist, and the city is well known over there. I hope Globespan can sort themselves out, as they are getting alot of bad press in Liverpool at the moment, and that wont help the route.

LPL have shot themselves in the foot really on this one I feel. GSM does not have the marketing power in this region of the UK, or NYC, to really attract the passengers. It would be easier if they used the CRS’s because then the route would show itself, but they’re not good at advertising. This is going to make JFK services look wholly uncredible to potential airlines that could have operated it in the future. They jumped at GSM and its backfiring, they’d have been better waiting a bit longer and attracting a hub carrier, the market is reasonable, and with DL, CO and AA looking to use 757s to regional points their time may have come, even with MAN nearby.

It doesn’t surprise me that LPL-JFK is getting cut. I think daily out of LPL was ambitious to start with, and I think 4 times a week is still a couple too many, but it’s more sensible. And it may also be to do with the fact GSM are having fleet problems too.
