A ship is hired, and an airshow is held in International waters.
Finally – a Supersonic airshow. No speed restrictions – sonic booms.
I know it would mainly attract the fast jet boys – but I long to experience an airshow as it would have been in the 50’s – a Supersonic Hunter – yummmmm

You could recreate the Barnes Wallis Bouncing bomb trials as well
with a full complement of Mossies and Lancs

How about tying it up with a regular ferry passage – say along the route from Plymouth to Santander? Perhaps a deal could be stuck with the ferry operators if it was planned well enough in advance. That trip takes 24hours each way btw, and there’s a return trip usually about 4-6 hours after arrival.
GPRS & a small ATC post on the bridge, or on an upper deck, would help locate the vessel for pilots, which is probably only doing about 20k, or less.
Sorry about the static display & mock battles though 🙁 Maybe the lashings of booze, great company, and no same day driving (hurrah) could make up for it.
Are there any restrictions with regards to flying alongside commercial vessels that would need to be waived/approved?
I’m with you on that

Good point – the Red Arrows (and almost everyone else) display here, in Plymouth Sound, where there are both large military and civilian vessels and continental ferries in quite a small area, relatively speaking.
Gah. I’ve ruined me pants
For any American’s reading – Damien is referring to his underwear – not his trousers! (Unless he’s an American, of course, in which case I stand to be corrected. Either way, I’d hate to be his laundryman.)

If there are , someone should tell the Red Arrows. At the Tall Ships event at Portsmouth last year , one of the synchro pair went shooting past an incoming P & 0 Ferry quite close at about funnel height. I remember wishing that I had been on the ferry at the time.

…and it all ends with the carrier you’ve all just flooded coming under attack of a full regiment of Tu-22K’s.
Tu-16Korvets will drop life rafts for the survivors.

Oh dear.
What about the outcry from the Sub preservationists? Mustn’t trample other people’s dreams remember…
Someone might re-man the sub, and then we’ll get a proper Bay of Biscay battle – Ju88, Sunderlands, Whitleys, Libarators and a couple of Arado 196’s fighting over a (OK small) wolfpack of Subs. Corvette heaves over the horizon and up pops the Bismark. HMS Glorious reapears from the north-east…

Now we’re really getting silly in fact I think crazy is a better description but I’m with you guys all the way. So let’s add the Fairey FD2 and how about a late mark Spit in a vertical dive as well? then you could listen to the pilot screaming at the same time

Not to mention the live firing against a splash-target, the TFC Beaufighter sinking an old hulk with RPs, and a Catalina and Sunderland deptcharging a old navy sub.
