An Air New Zealand B744 has been grounded at LAX following reports of parts of the a/c falling off. A six meter long wing flap became dislodged causing damage to the rest of the wing. The pilot only knew that the wing piece had dissappeared when landing at LAX. A fisherman a few miles from the airport found the wing piece early this morning, whilst on a fishing trip, floating in Manukau Harbour.
He called the police which promted a full scale emergency.
This is the second time that such an insident has happened in a week. Last Saturday a piece of metal fell from another B744’s wing, only meters from parked cars, in Auckland industrial estate.
A statement from Air NZ said that they are going to inspect their entire B747 Fleet.

RE: More news… plane crash.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-08-02 AT 04:25 PM (GMT)]A plane belonging to Brazil’s Rico Linhas Aereas Airlines with 28 passengers aboard crashed Friday shortly after take-off from Rio. It was reported that 3 people survived the crash. It was said that the plane, an Embraer Brasilia, crashed one mile from the end of the runway in heavy rain. Fire crews were imeadiately on the scene but found it hard to get to the aircraft, due to the poor weather conditions and due to the terrain around the stricken aircraft. 🙁
