For people outside Australia who like all things piston and loud – especially Mustangs, the news is good to know that there is active work , tho tedious and slow on a few CAC Mustangs airframes under way with the hope to one day see these fly again.
Various aircraft are being worked on with components in rebuild and overhaul according to information passed onto me.
The airframes mentioned are CAC Mustang A68 – 71 , 104 and 120.
The Mustang connection with the RAAF started in WW2 as loan machines P-51D / K and after war Australia licensed built a few more.
These pure Aussie Mustangs then went on to serve in the Korean War flying all over Korea doing mainly CAS missions and escorting B-29s into North Korea on other missions. These Mustangs flew in Korea for a short time and by 1951 the Meteor jet took over.
The last RAAF Mustangs managed to make the early 1960s in reserve squadrons before mostly meeting the scrapman.
Only a few survived and remain with us today thankfully and these survivors will one day regain their position in the sky again.

Don’t worry Bruce, I’ve said what I’ve got to say to Phil in the open, and there’s no need for more, evidently.

Gents, please revert to PM’s – this is no place for open squabbles.
Its worth noting that networking is something we all do; I know about lots of projects that would curl your toes, but I dont post the information on here or anywhere else, as it is not appropriate to do so. Therefore, when you are posting information, please make sure it is attributable, and that the owners/restorers are broadly happy for you to do so.

How about an apology to me James i think is in order here. You accuse me of stuff and you have stepped over your mark.
You still havent acknowledged why i get emails and SMS from Australian and overseas warbird enthusiasts, owners and groups with information of all kinds.
Today at lunch i got an sms saying 3 Mustangs been rebuilt to fly and the A68 numbers…

If your going down this path of anti and trying to trash everything i do, make sure you apply it to everyone on all forums.
Next time someone posts something i want to see you make them prove their sources too.
I work off many sources as i have a few warbird mates high and low in the warbird industry all around the world.
Many of my mates read many forums and send me notices.
Maybe you are very unaware of this.
Think it is called “networking”
Most networks tips i get dont always clarify who or where they got their information from for MANY reasons.
How come you dont criticise me when i knew well before others of F-111 movements recently? Because my mates and networking via SMS.

Whatever, Phil. Fact remains that’s where the info came from. I’m not interested in your huffs and feuds, just ensuring the gen’s good, and attributed, not secret squirrel.

Hello James
For the record i dont read the Warbirdz forum due to the rudeness of many people there and that is that.
I do have mates tho who pass on tid bits of information via SMS and emails.
That is how i found out.
Please inform Cypher from the warbirdz forum to stop acting immaturely. He would be smart to cease “we want phil back”.
If cypher hadnt been so rude in the past towards me ….maybe i wouldnt left…..

…according to information passed onto me.
C’mon Phil. In reality, that means “I read on the Warbirdz forum, where I’m no longer posting…”
It’s good to share the Gen, but please give credit where due.
For those interested in the direct info, and further discussion (first and second hand rather than denial of source) the thread’s here:

..can’t have enough P-51 restoration projects going on these days.
Strictly speaking these are CAC (Commonwealth aircraft Corporation) Mustangs, “P-51” being an American designation for the American built ones, mostly in US service.
Hey maybe some where in Australia is an old warehouse full of boxed up P-51’s awaiting your discovery …we can only hope….
No room in the secret tunnels because of all the Spitfires and Zeroes, I’m afraid.
More seriously, it’s a big country, but there have been a lot of qualified people looking very hard for decades…
maybe they’ll paint some up in 352nd colors !!!!!
No offence, but I do hope not. We’ve plenty of appropriate original schemes, including shark’s teeth… There’s already enough Aussie Mustangs pretending to be American ones in the US.
Regards,
