Morning and Evening Light at Southend

When the sun does come out, the light can be very harsh in the middle of the day at this time of year. However the early morning and late evening light can be really spectacular, so here’s some shots from Southend over the last couple of days.

I’ll start with the departures from early this morning:

Departing to Faro at 06:40

The obligatory ATR a few minutes later to Dublin.

The second Germania of the day arriving this time from Munich (I missed the 737 as it arrived at 5:30 and left at 6:15!)

And departing half an hour later with Ford employees to Istanbul Sabiha Gocken.

And finally most interestingly, and certainly my favourite shot, a Malmo Aviation RJ100 arriving in fantastic evening light from Malmo for maintenance with Inflite.

Unfortunately a Rossiya A319 which had also been due around the same time was 2 hours late and landed after dark. I hope these were of interest to someone!

Many thanks again Culpano. All of my shots are taken from behind the perimeter fence, however there are certainly some fantastic spots. Although some have been lost with all he development, some very nice new ones have been made by the runway extension. I certainly hope Southend is like a mini-Frankfurt for the Olympics, but so little seems known at this late stage. I’m sure plenty of biz jets are almost certain, but they are not my sort of thing.

Garyrussell, I’ve got no more ‘nice light’ shots at the moment, but certainly would like to get some more. Best I can do is a Golden Air ATR72 I got this morning, however the light was a bit harsh bu at least the sun was shining.

Great shots. I bet Southend will be like a mini Frankfurt when the Olympics are on !

The last EasyJet shot and the Germania take-off shot have great unobstructed view like you are stood right next to the runway.

Do you have ramp access or is it a public viewing spot ?

Very nice:cool:

Yes…. early, late and winter light are often better for picking out detail and for cloudscape backgrounds.
