For once EDI gets a new route rather than GLA:

I assume the routes will be operated by 734s. This is only the 2nd UK destination after LGW I believe.

I think its Domodedovo

AA are also rumoured to be operating a 777 on the GLA routes from next year.

For those of you at MAN Transaero have also announced that they are to start a Moscow – MAN service too.
Which airport to they server at Moscow, Domodedovo or Sheremetevo?

There is probably a lot of cities that you don’t want to get to via Manchester or London, but unfortunately, sometimes you have to.
At the moment yes, but is this new trend continues, Scotland will have direct links to many destinations it currently doesn’t.
Continental, AA and UA have all expressed interest in direct Scottish flights. Continental are starting a daily 757 return service EWR-EDI-EWR this summer.
I heard AA are planning a JFK-GLA service and UA an ORD-GLA

Bmused 55, well said, I wish we had an airport capable of international flights from N.Wales, then we would give MAN and LPL a run for their money! Valley AB is under consideration from Ryanair to start flights to Stansted and Dublin. DUB flights would knock the ferries hard!
😉 Folk moan about Edinburgh getting all the routes nowadays. But they seem to forget that not too long ago Edinburgh was neglected greatly for a long time. Now since they have a new, modern terminal building EDI has become capable of processing more passengers and is as a consequence, and in my opinion quite rightly, attracting new business 😀

Okay, could you please tell us on what you base this.
Are you privvy to the airlines market research?
Are you a resident of Scotland?
Are you in the airline bussiness?
what experience do you have in the industry?
This route is targetted at us Scots. It makes no sense to fly from Manchester in this case.
We don’t want to have to fly down to Manchester or London to get to Moscow.
All you folk from down south realise one thing please. The world does NOT revolve round England and its airports.

Even those travelling for ‘leisure’ instead of business opt for Edinburgh over Glasgow. I did! 😀
To quote the great Mr T…. “Damn fool!” 😀
Edinburgh is being marketed as a European and short haul airport by BAA and Glasgow as a long hauler and charter/lo-co airport.
Good luck to the Moscow service, and I may just force myself through to the midden again for a picture (lol)
Bhoy is right though about EDI gaining most of the treasure fund created by the Scottish Executive to encourage new routes. GLA has done all the work on it’s own, thanks to an excellent management team.

I can’t imagine why Tarnsaero chose Edinburgh. This market Russia-UK is a little underseved IMO. More Russian Airlines could operate from MAnchester and Birmingham
