The first thread from my little Moscow expedition. Later this weeks threads will follow for Domodedovo and Vnukovo. More photos to be found on my site.
Beginning with the collection belonging to the Moscow Technical University. Their collection is to the northeast of the airport. In the past this was connected to the airport by a taxiway, but construction rendered the place inaccesable from the airport. It’s an interesting place, where over half the planes still carry their original CCCP registration.
According to Google-Earth there is a Tupolev 22 here, but I did not see it. There are two Tu-154s, two IL-86s, a IL-62, a IL-76, a YAK-40 and a single Mil-8 (Google-Earth shows two).
We where unable to enter the area. We had to make photos from the fence. But the fence is only about a meter (four foot) tall, so not much of a problem.
And the airside tour, organised by Aeroprints.com.

Great shots, I love the TU-134 Glazed noses, any scrap yards out there?
Not at Sheremetyevo.
There are a few (to be) scrapped planes at the VARZ-400 maintenance area at Vnukovo which I posted in a seperate thread. There are also a lot of dumped planes, mostly Ilyushins, at Domodedovo. Those will follow in the next few days.

Very nice shots. I am green with envy. That Polet IL96 is very high on my wishlist.
Look forward to seeing the rest and the other airports

So it is.
The difference isn’t obvious in that particular shot, though.

The Aeroflot is an MD-11. 🙂

Fantastic images! I don’t care what anyone says but IMO the Tu134 is one of the most beautiful designs around, especially the “solid nose” version. Nice to see the IL86 is still flying. The IL96 is a worthy successor to it and looks great in that Polet scheme, would be nice to see more of them about.

Some excellent work there, Peter. I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest.
And don’t the DC10 and the Tu134A look smart in the current Aeroflot livery? 🙂
