I’ve just had a call from Ralph Steiner at the Museum, who informs me that some low life has stolen the Mosquito propeller we had placed on the aircrew memorial at the museum.
Its probably the usual low life scum who do these things – we should be grateful they havent stolen anything else, but have to hope they havent been having a good look round to see what else they can grab…
Anyway, the point is – if anyone is offered a 3 blade propeller, with very twisted, corroded blades, then please let me know.
Also, if anyone has a suitable Mosquito propeller with which we could replace it, I would love to hear from you!
Cheers
Bruce

I’m really saddened to hear about the loss of the prop, more so that it was part of a memorial. I simple cannot understand the mentality of the people that do such things and I really hope the prop is recovered in one piece and the culprits punished. The standard punishment threatened with club members up here is you have your ears tucker-popped to the fuselage, and nitromors plastered onto your goolies. Feel free to use this punishment if the little ba$tards are caught.
I worry constantly about all the Brit parts we’ve yet to fit, every time I’m on-site I have a quick walkaround to make sure all is well – and breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Time for an extra camera just in case. Oh, and a few club-issue baseball bats.

SCUM is to good a word to call them.
Sadly its all to common today with such memorials etc being stolen.
mainly for there scrap metal value . sadly most are melted down or shipped abroad very fast and are lost for ever.
SNAF(u) is even better- if you do not know the meaning please PM me:diablo: :diablo:

The police were called, but three hours later had not shown up
There would have been a time when the police would have been round within 5mins and would have taken these idiots away and read em the riot act – now they would rather give em counclin and a cup of tea – hence why people treat the police as such a joke.
Its high time police tried to prevent crime and deal with the people who cause it not spend time messing around with the soft options they dont work.
Sorry rant over 🙁

Hi LL,
This sounds familiar:mad: One way of getting the local plod to turn up when needed is to dial 999 and say one of the yobs has a gun, after all they were firing projectiles at the Vulcan, and see how fast you get a responce:diablo:

Paint the reverse of the items on show with a special paint which stains the thiefs hands or clothing,or marine grease which is a ****** to get off.
Anti-vandal paint. I need 500 litres for the underside of the Vulcan…..:D

….. a location NOT to your liking… As soon as word comes out of “that northern hell you get to” the fear factor comes into play.:diablo:
Such a place exists! Its called ‘Sunderland’…….. 😀
Some lovely young adults (14-16 ish..) decided it would be hilarious to set fire to NEAM’s security fence today.(After smacking golf balls off the Vulcan while we were working on it!) There is (was) some long grass on the football field side of the fence, and they set it alight in full view of half a dozen people at NEAM. If the fire had spread quicker, or had been set when we were not there, the Vulcan would have been damaged or worse… Some years ago, we lost a Valetta in an arson attack – nothing was done by the law enforcement at the time. Another member interrupted the same kids setting a fire in the trees at the other side of the Vulcan about an hour later. Today’s little effort just brought back some rather bad memories of the Valetta attack. Problem for us is that if another of our aircraft was damaged or even buildings for that matter, we don’t have the resources to re-build. Most members would get so fed up that NEAM would most likely close its doors. Whether we have a Vulcan in the morning remains to be seen. I’ve got a really bad feeling about it all… The police were called, but three hours later had not shown up. The fire brigade was called automatically when we reported to the police – they made it in less than 2 minutes (but were not needed).
What hope do we have (we, as in ANY museum of any description) when this kind of behaviour is tolerated? Are there public funds available for the security of our heritage? I’m guessing not…. 😡 😡 😡

GAWD! Is nothing Sacred to the Scumb Bags of Today?!!
Those low lifes would have seen that it was part of a Memorial, I`ll restrain from using strong language!
I would agree that CCTV does help, but only if used properly to gain varying evidence, and as already mentioned not just images of “Hoodies” doing the thieving. Its no good pointing just a single live camera at an object on its own, i.e, other cameras at entry points/other places would have to be used to gain as much info as possible for the Police. Something that needs thought, and money.
If caught they should have to pay a large some of the money used for having to install such a system, and be forced to do at least community 200hrs community service I say!
As everyone else is no doubt doing, we`ll keep our eyes peeled too.
Is nothing sacred today? Absolutey Disgraceful!

Throw them in jail and let them rot there till they die:diablo: 😡 But if forgion throw them out the country.
I have a better preposition: You cannot throw them out of the country,as most will without doubt be born British. And,as previously said,Australia just doesn’t work anymore. But, why make prisons where they are now,i.e.centralized? Why not just find some small islands (preferably with miserable weather conditions :diablo: ) and make new Alcatraz’es…with good-old proper manual labour (after all it’s called punishment, not “hotel”). And make sure each “petty theft” they happen to do just add up…I.e. you steal a car,you get 6 months there. You steal (organized) 50 cars, you get 300 months off at a location NOT to your liking… As soon as word comes out of “that northern hell you get to” the fear factor comes into play.:diablo:

I know it’s tempting to talk of what should be done to then IF caught(and I must admit there have been some pretty good suggestions:dev2: ) but perhaps it would be more worthwhile to look at ways future thiefts can be discouraged/prevented? I’m thinking along the lines of security systems such as movement activated CCTV cameras. I know this sounds expensive but some systems are around at less than £100. I have seen Cameras used for monitering on high ground crash sites and they do take some pretty good shots.
Garry.
CCTV is a waste of time.
I have it installed at work and reccently had a lockable storage container broken into and items stolen from it. I had clear footage of the 2 toss pots responsible, a very clear shot of their very striking car, but as the cameras did not take an exact image of the cars registration ( 2 index numbers did not show clear enough for a positive identification) the police told me that no further action could be taken!
Whats the bloody point?

But to where would you send them if they are British?

To one of our disused Royal Navy Vessels they haven’t got around to scrapping yet. Stripped of everything useful and moored too far from land for the toe rags to swim ashore. I wouldn’t honour them with supplies either, they’d have to make the best of it for as long as they survived.
Me to think this is a great Idea but place it in the Mid Atlantic and make a hole at the bottom of the ship and watch them sink or die from the cold :diablo: :dev2: Plus I bet if they get found they only get a £100 fine

CCTV is another cost issue and to be honest in reality we should not have to take such measures.
Regarding CCTV it does not really detour the hardened thief . 1 being he can still nab the article wear a hoody or hat and take the item . before you view the footage after the items gone the next day, never to be seen again . and if you do get a image of the culprits, the images do not stand up in a court of law. either way the item will be stolen never to be seen again and if the thief is caught they will get a slap on the wrist. its abloody sad state of affairs really.

Thanks for some of the suggestions.
CCTV is being looked at – a PC based system need not be expensive, and could be very effective.
Fencing is good but is being revised. They got in by the simple expediant of removing the gate from its hinges; an arrangement that has been revised.
I see that the police have been given the job of tracking these err people down. I came across some up in North Norfolk today – I shall be passing the details along….

I went to the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth, and over the far side of the water are 2 old RFA’s parked up and the tour guide on the boat trip said that cant be scrapped due to high asbestos content, hmmmmm now, catch the gits chuck em on the old girls and let em have as much as they want LoL
Bruce, what has happened to your memorial is appalling, I hope that those who did it are caught.

So do I but after the debacle with the former Falklands floating accomodation I still think the gallows is the best option………………….Besides you don’t get many complaints after the sentence is passed:diablo: :diablo: 😀
