Mosquito HJ711 moved

Don’t know if this has already been posted but Mosquito NF11 HJ711 has moved from it’s previous stable to that of East Kirkby.
This move was done pretty quickly and way before it was scheduled from what I read.
Also looks like it was moved under a frustrating period. Not going to speculate on here but reading from the official post on the FB page some people need to take a look at themselves.

Post below from the FB page.

Mossie Mayhem Part 3
First time in 50 years that a Mosquito has been moved by
road.

We would like to this opportunity to apologies to all our face book friends – HJ711 was last night be tucked up in her new home at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Center .

After the press release was issued about HJ711 moving to East Kirby certain volunteers at the YAM felt they should vent their frustration by way of threats so we felt that in the best interests of HJ711 we should move her as soon as it was humanly possible.

Along with this and other factors which have had to be taken into consideration and with such an extremely complicated move as this trying to work around three Museums – events & functions has been extremely difficult, After taking advice from the police & H&S we where advised to keep the move as quite as possible . We do hope you will all understand!!!

The ultimate aim as always been a safe future for HJ711 now this precious lady is safe in her new home and Tony is happy and looking forward to the next chapter and that is all that matters .

The move could not have happened without the cooperation and dedication of a number of people and company’s.

We would like to extend our thanks to – Will Duckworth – organizing transport & Needham Transport Rotherham

Our thanks and heart felt appreciation to the following :

Andrew Thorpe – L&KR Thrope Transport – Gainsborough
Mike Pocock – For offering to deliver the Jigs and ground equipment from the Mosquito museum to York (You are a star)
Colin & Jackie Williams ( Applied Fiberglass Mouldings )
John Marshall – Heavy wooden boxes
Andre Tempest
Graham Buckle
Alison Mellor
John Hawkridge

Gerry Mears / Bob Glasby , Phil Birtles, Mosquito museum team – who have worked their hearts out and in frustrating circumstances , pulled all the stops out to help Tony and myself move HJ711 to her new home.

Andrew Panton ,the Panton Family, Keith Brenchley, Bob Mitchell and the East Kirkby team. Thank for staying late Friday and thank you for looking after us last night great team !!

True, but without larger premises that is as far as he could progress if I remember correctly from the articles, he couldn’t fit the wings etc and was limited to his garage width and without that the project was stalled, hence Elvington was a win win for both parties, as it allowed him to progress the rebuild, not deriding anyone by the way, just pointing it out, without him the project would never have started, so kudos to him.

Probably to do with wanting it to become live and a runner, hence it makes sense to have it where there is a knowledge base on tap to help make that happen.

Re the above post

I seem to recall that Tony Agar had managed pretty well with the restoration of HJ711 prior to its move to Elvington with pictures appearing in the aviation press of the completed fuselage parked in the street outside his house near York.

I suggest that the move to Elvington was more mutually beneficial. Not only did it give the Mossie room to grow, but it was also a pull for visitors to the museum. There were a number of occasions when I visited the museum simply to see progress with that particular airframe alone. There were probably others like me.

I cannot imagine that decision to move HJ711 was taken lightly but it must have been taken for good reason, which need not concern us.

In a way, sad she has left Elvington under such a cloud BUT a huge thanks MUST go to Elvington for the years of care and hangarage they have provided to see this project progress to the condition she is in today, it is just a shame the actions of a couple of individuals at the end appear to be souring that fine reputation and fine history. Without Elvington this could probably never ever of happened and people need to look past the tardiness of late and remember that.

New home new plans, I think she will become a valuable contribution at East Kirkby and I look forward to seeing what the future brings.

I would just like to point out I am no way connected with either fine establishment, simply having visited both of them and realise the importance of Elvingtons fine contribution over the years in supporting the Mossie.

My first ever visit to East Kirkby yesterday, ostensibly to see Just Jane on taxy duty but also good chance to see HJ711 in constituent parts. Difficult to separate Mosquito stuff from other items in the hangar in just a few photos but the other ‘stuff’ is interesting anyway !

Not wanting to drift but Sadsack, antics in groups like this are not uncommon sadly, Was in a museum group once, a new person appeared and in a short space of time stirred loads of trouble, a couple of long serving stalwarts were utterly and wrongly targetted. Eventually he left in a huff but caused damage, I tend not to be interested in any form of group another experience of the most utterly childish behaviour of jockeying for position and being acting as some sort of superior finished me

Its Universal Im afraid..museum I was a part of for 12 years had same thing happen.

Lets be careful about apportioning blame please. We don’t know the circumstances – so lets just leave it there.

Good luck to my old mate Tony. A new chapter…

It’s very difficult to be objective about a subject that you’re passionate about. If someone is hired in as a manager of a museum and has the unenviable task of enhancing footfall and there’s a volunteer who has put in decades of effort, there can easily be a lack of understanding or disparity in what has been done, or what needs to be done. Clear and effective communication is the only way forward, which if taken in context can be done.

I must admit to having worked hard on several warbirds with quite a degree of passion (as a volunteer), only for the owner to move them on at short notice. Honestly it can be heartbreaking, but they weren’t mine, they were his.

I have worked in a museum and am barred from there simply because the manager has the power to do so along with anyone “who challenges her authority” … staff often pursue pathetic vendettas with no thought towards the harm done to the museums involved. I cant get in and hence 50 of my freinds and family are unaware to bring their friends to a site we have visits for 30 years.

It would have been great to see her taxying at Elvington where she has spent many years under rebuild, but I guess the Merlin knowledge and experience at EK will make it a more suitable location. Either way, we will still get the chance to see a Mossie taxying under it’s own power in the UK.

I once met Tony Agar during my first visit to Elvington. I happend to have a photo with me of our substantial Mossie wing. He was very nice to talk to and showed me around in his storage area, you really should have seen what was there. That he pulled such a project off is nothing more of iconic. Let’s hope HJ711 gets the home it deserves and may it do a lot of groundrunning/taxying as well for all to see.

I would suggest that if the threats are on record then the police should be informed. Any threats are completely unacceptable IMHO.

It’s not clear what threats were made in the posts on FB.
