I may have asked this before, and i apologise if i have. Back in the late forties /early fifties my Dad was stationed at Winterbourne Gunner in Wiltshire With the Joint school of Chemical warfare, on the base were a couple of airframes but one stands out in my Dads memory more than the rest, They had a complete Mosquito airframe only missing the engines and cowls with just the firewalls/bulkheads exposed. Are there any Mossie experts out ther who could shed light on the identity of this aircraft and its final fate , My Dad spent many a happy hour sitting in the cockpit and carrying out various sorties to pass away the weekends between guard shifts. Come on chaps someone must know??

I can’t help with your question, but it does remind me of a tale my dad used to tell. He was an admin officer at the Aircrew Selection Centre when it was at Hornchurch. He used to fly quite a bit in the based aircraft, mainly Chipmunks and Ansons. There were a couple of Mossies on the station (No 2 CAACU, I think) and he could have got a flight in one, but “never got round to it”. Of course in later life he wished he had!

Sure it wasn’t a Meteor?
