Had a great weekend at the Hamilton Airshow in Ontario Canada. Some real nice formations, namely the Lancaster, Mosquito, 2 Hurricanes and 2 Spitfires – what a glorious sight! The Mosquito was parked up on the “Flight line ramp” and I couldn`t believe that they were not roped off. This allowed ANYONE to walk up and around, touch, poke and – in the case of the Mosquito – allow 1 chap to spend 20 minutes poking his head and camera into every nook and cranny! They never allowed me to do that at Duxford even when I worked there!
I`m not the best photographer but here`s a link to some of my shots – you can see in some of them how we were allowed to approach the aircraft – and get in the way of each others shots!
Apart from the Mosquito the highlights for me were the ME262 and FW190 in flight – first time seen! Magic!!

Looked a lot bumpier on the Sunday. Formation was very smooth Saturday.

Must admit to a tear or two.
I notice the Mossie had retracted the tailwheel. In my day the tailwheels were locked down because there was no indicator reds or greens as for the main wheels. My pilot told me this was because there was a tendency for the tailwheel to get hung up and it was not advisable to land with it retracted.
Same problem with the Hurricane although the tail wheel was locked down after the prototype.
Anyone know what was wrong with the Lysander? Didn’t do a display Saturday. Took off and landed again.

Just come back from a delightful holiday in Toronto and Hamilton.
I went to the airshow on the Saturday, and it was a great day out. Who can complain with a Lancaster, Mosquito, Fw190, Me262 and more!
The formations compared to British displays seemed a lot more spaced out and sedate. Didn’t feel there was any danger at all.
Amazing seeing a Lancaster and Mosquito in formation.
Not having barriers is just one of those cultural differences you accept being in a different country. Just have to go with the flow.
One thing that did surprise me was the lack of stalls. No models, `brick a brac` or other aviation goodies.
Still an excellent day out.

Last time I saw that was Oshkosh 1989 with the Weeks Mosquito and the CWH Lanc – still my favourite aviation memory viewed at ground level!

Wow! A Mosquito and a Lancaster in formation…when was the last time that was seen?
It’s nice of Mr. Yagen to share his aircraft.

Very many thanks for posting and sharing, brings a lump to the throat.

Lovely video.
Although the formation looked a little tight, considering (if nothing else) the value of the aircraft
Alan, decisions about formation positioning and individual aircraft distancing are not usually made with regard to aircraft value (a good number of other factors, yes) – your criticism seems a little unfounded in this instance.

Great access to the aircraft has been a feature of this project, many thanks to Jerry Yagen and everyone else involved. I was lucky enough to get access to the hangar a couple of months before she flew. The crowd was able to go right up to her at the first Ardmore show (after flying had finished), and various other events in NZ.

Looking at the video that I linked to, I’m reminded that we are lucky in NZ that the airshow set-ups often allow long banking passes.

Thanks for posting. I was a little worried when the Hurricane broke right near the formation. Great that the commentator let you hear the Merlin’s.

The editing could be smoother in this, but with ten Merlins, I’m not really complaining!

Brilliant. Great pics, superb line-up of aircraft, clearly a lovely day, Lanc, Mossie, Hurricane, FW190, ME262. Wow!
