[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-04-02 AT 08:18 AM (GMT)]Hi All,
The Mosquito Page, http://www.mossie.org has been updated by Andy Dawson. Some good stuff on there, including the sound of RR 299’s twin Merlins, which sound great! (Go to Donated Files- Sound)
Happy listening,
Neilly

Here’s a thought – do you think they could spruce up naff model scenes such as the ones in 633 Squadron and ‘replace’ them with modern computer generated ones that have been ‘dated’ to make the film colour etc look the same?
How I miss RR299…

I have always been a fan of the fighter versions, you know the ones with all the guns in the nose.

Hi Glenn,
My favorite Mossie? No problem deciding that one, a B IX. The greatest of them all- Fbar-Freddie (213 sorties).
Cheers,
Neilly

Neilly,
What is your favourite variant of the wooden wonder?

Hi Moggy,
That Mosquito B.35 at Liverpool Airport is now at the Mosquito Museum, TA 634. So in a way she did stand the test of time.
Cheers,
Neilly

Regrettably I was around in 1963 / 64 and there weren’t that many Mosquitos.
There wasn’t the same interest in aviation heritage that there is now (No FlyPast). I think one of the aircraft used in 633 Sq was rescued from use as a Gate Guardian (Honest! A wooden aircraft standing unprotected from the elements alongside a busy main road) at Liverpool Airport.
The THUM flight at Woodvale switched from Spitfires to Mosquitos in the early sixties. I think that is where the film company got most of their aircraft from.

The movie was made in 1964 I think, how many Mosquitos were still flying back then and were there enough of them around to just destroy a few for a film?
I agree on the script, and the model scenes were…well the best they could do at the time I guess. Do you recall the shell airframes of Spitfies and Hurricanes used in the film The Battle of Britain, and how they folded like a house of cards when they exploded?

Hi Glenn,
I like the music from 633 Sqd., too. The fly scenes are great as well, apart from the bits where they used models, no such thing as computer generated images, then. As for the rest of the film, I can only think of the 4 (FOUR!!!!:'( ) perfectly good Mosquitoes that were destroyed! And as for the script YUKKKK!!!!!!
TTFN,
Neilly

I just watched 633 Squadron again today, didn’t know it was on, but that music is unmistakable! Love that film.
