Mosquito restorations

We all know about Jerry Yagens project in new zealand, but are there any other projects worldwide with the intention of getting one airworthy?

Does anyone know what happened to the ex Fighter collection example.

thanks 😎

Mikey,

We’ve people on site Tues-Thurs and Sat-Sun.

The next building is the hangar for the helicopter collection but before then we’ve got to get the Viscount back together for the 60th anniversary of NAC next April. The celebrations are (tentatively) a national tour to some degree of hopefully a dominie, dak and friendly starting in CHC and launched with a champagne breakfast with ZK-BRF. Checkout Richard Waugh’s site for details as they unfold there.

Our finances have taken a hit recently (guess I can say this on a military focussed thread) with the return to NZ of the mortal remains of the ex-TEAL Lockheed Electra ZK-TEA which as we surf is in Hull UK awaiting her ship in the next few days. That gives us three of the four major 1960’s civil aircraft in the one place…just a friendly to go.

So Hudson hangars are a wee bit down the track…

Hi Denys
Things are looking good, nice to see some serious steps forward…
Is there plans for a new hanger for the hudson??
When are there people around the section? Was down a couple of weeks ago, Viscount and antartic bird look great undercover, but nobody about, even the office had a sign up, back in 15 mins…., I think the clocks must run slower in the South Island as no one appeared….

Why thanks for the compliment first time I think I’ve been called a nice chap for a while feel free to revisit again 🙂

Since you guys were out we’ve begun the massive move of all the gear out of the storage it’s been in for years and here’s a one week old photo of NZ2328/TE758 and sundry materials filling up what we thought was a handsomely large workshop!

Saw the various mossie bits that the Ferrymead people have on my recent NZ trip. Very nice chap showed us around. They have been given some lottery money to build a restoration hangar to put the aircraft in. It’s not going to be an airworthy one but all power to them.

On the subject of a mossie as part of a national collection (and this may have been covered elsewhere) I recall attending an RAeS lecture given by Paul Day, ex OC BBMF, in which he said that the BAe Mossie was apparently due to go to them. Everything in place apparently and then fate intervened sadly. I suppose one could describe the BBMF as an airworthy national collection!

There are long term plans to restore the fuselage, but its not high on the list of priorities.

Paul McMillan,

We need a better simile than Carlsberg lager – such dreadful stuff!

so are we going to see a mossie flying in Great Britain again. i hope so.. i mean it is one of the best Great British aircraft that was ever made…sometimes i really cant belive this country i live in… a airworthy mosquito should be part of a national collection…like the crown jewells, or the mappa mundi !!!!!!!!. 😡

I was over to see Bob Jens Mosqutio on April 30, it was the first time I had seen his restoration. He has just moved it into a new hangar at the Vancouver airport so maybe this has delayed him a bit, he says that he will soon be sending his Merlins out for overhaul, I guess we just have to remain patient and let Mr Jens proceed at his own pace. The work that I saw is of the higest quality and when this bird gets airborne it will be a treat to see it and hear it.

Yes, but the ad does not refer to Special Brew. I too drank far too much Special Brew in my youth. Mind you – still pretty dreadful stuff – just strong!

Hmm, looks like next post takes me to 1000 – better make it something meaningful!

Wow didn’t realise you had four Mossies at the dH Museum, any plans to restore the fuselage? Can’t wait to go again, plenty of interesting a/c there

Yes, it is great to see such a big list of survivors. 🙂 As many of us, I do hope some mossie will get airborne again.

Fingers crossed.
