Ed Balkan from the USA has made and produced a new film on the Mosquito raid on Shell House with Ted Sismore and will be both showing the film (UK debut) with a Q and A session after. Details of the film below:
THE SHELL HOUSE RAID
Gestapo headquarters in Copenhagen, located in a building called Shell House, was the centre of oppression in Denmark during World War II. It was a place of terror and torture… a place of surveillance where files and evidence were kept detailing the activities of Danish resistance fighters. To deter air raids on Shell House, the Germans imprisoned resistance personnel as “hostage-shields” in cells in the attic of the building. The intelligence activities of the Gestapo threatened the effectiveness of the resistance movement, thus with reluctance, for fear of civilian casualties, the Danes asked the RAF to bomb Shell House and destroy it. The goals of this daring raid were to destroy incriminating records, kill Gestapo personnel, and free the resistance prisoners in the attic.
The producer interviewed Air Commodore Ted Sismore, the master navigator of the Shell House raid, in his home in England. Sismore’s revealing statements, combined with dramatic archival footage of the actual raid, provide a poignant picture of war and its deadly penalties.
