Hello everyone
I have recently been in contact with a very nice gentleman in Scotland who has a set of mossie cowlings – serial RS627.
Does anyone know the fate of this aircraft? He thinks it came to grief at Banff during WWII, and even knows the pilot. Problem is the pilot does not have a record of the serial number!!
Thanks
Elliott

I think I missed that…what was the story with these Hinds ?
I can’t remember the full story but I’ll tell you what I can. Some years ago three Hind(s)? were found in Afghanistan, where they had been standing in the open for some 20 years. They were brought back to this country and inspected before a decision as to their fate was made. The end of the story is that one is now in the RAF museum Hendon, one is with the Shuttleworth collection and IIRC the third was used for parts. I’m sure that if I have got any of this wrong a correction will be forthcoming very soon and would be much appreciated by me as I hate getting my information wrong, more so if I am passing it on to someone else as fact.

A pile of stuff was dug from the RAF Banff dump fairly recently ( last 2-3 years ) , this included Mossie cowlings , a Mustang seat , Mustang undercarriage doors and other bits and bobs , the whole lot was on sale on Barnstormers.com for £3000 ono , is this the same chap . PM me if I can be of any help .
That’s the fella George

Mosquito RS627 swung on landing at Banff on 1/2/45, hitting a snow bank.

our best find was a complete mossie canopy about 18 months ago from a scrapyard in wellingborough! Put Mark Evans onto a pair of Wellington wheels from the same site – the kit can still be found (gives hope to all of us)…I mean look at the Afghan Hinds……wow!
