Mosquito KA114 is Avweb’s Refurb of the month: http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/refurbotm/RefurbOfTheWeek_JerryYagen_deHavillandDH98Mosquito_207992-1.html
Looks like mr. Yagen has a sense of humour. There are some nice photos included, I like the cockpit shot at full size, it is large enough to read all the small print. Really gives an impression of the attention to detail on this restoration.

I believe transporting the Mosquito to the USA is proving problematic. The wings, for example, have to be stripped of the engines, engine mounts, undercarriage, radiators and any other weighty components to maintain structural integrity when removed from the fuselage. There is also a procedure for bracing the fuselage once the wing is removed.

Jerry Yagen must be having trouble sorting out the transport, if anyone has a summer holiday in New Zealand planned, you want to be at Wings Over Wairarapa (90 minutes NE of Wellington) Jan 18-20. You might want to book the train pronto.

It is scheduled to display at Ardmore’s Warbirds Open Day this weekend also.

What a great achievement.
I found this earlier, while looking for something totally different. Not sure if this has already been posted ?

Just a note that KA114 is likely to be making a couple more public appearances in NZ. High speed run over a car racing event (Oct 28th), and a display at Armistice In Cambridge (11th November, insurance allowing).

On Sunday 30th of September 2012 – the day after the big airshow – the Wings Over New Zealand Aviation Forum had a forum meet at Don Subritzky’s place. Among the guest speakers were John Beeching, a WWII Mosquito pilot, and a special guest, Jerry Yagen himself. Not to forget our own JDK too. I have just placed recordings of the speeches on the Wings Over New Zealand Show site and you can listen or download as a podcast here:

Jerry was really interesting and it was a great pleasure to have him at the event, and to hear him talk about the Mosquito.

That last video is tremendous and says it all really, especially since it honours the chaps who made the Mossie such a famous type – those who flew it to war, let’s not forget them!
Well done to all involved.

Lovely photos.
For me it would be interesting to hear about the first flight from the flight crews perspective, given that it was probably their first as well on the Mosquito as a type 😎

Stunning pictures, Mike.
But have you ever heard of natural sound?
You can ride the faders to get rid of the music at the appropriate times.

Lovely video.
I’d forgotten how beautiful a Mossie looks in the air – & what a sound!
I can only imagine what a Sea Hornet must have looked like…
