Highball in German
. Anyone know what the German version was called?[/QUOTE]
I remember reading somewhere that it was called” Der Highball” or maybe “Das Highball”.I could however, be mistaken. Tim.

Bruce,
Do you have any photos of TA642 taking part in 633 Squadron, I have heard it was destroyed during the filming, but I have never seen any photos to prove it.

TJ118 was the cockpit used in both films, and it survives, albeit in a bad way. The rear fuselage also survives, and is currently stored at London Colney. The rear of RS715 went to Tony Agar, but the cockpit section was lost. We refer to TJ118 as our retirement project!
In the later film, you can tell which aircraft is TA634, as it has the tailwheel locked down! If you look closely, it also has the guard in front of the tailwheel, which had been removed from the others. Out of interest, we have just passed that guard on to IWM for TA719.
We also have the dinghy box from RS718, which, if you look closely, is missing in the crash scenes. Someone must have souvenired it!
And of course there is the nagging rumour that TA724 and RS718 were bulldozed into a hole at Bovvie when filming ended…..

Peter and R were a great help to me when I researched the film for WW.
It’s a bit lazy of me asking you this, but do you recall which edition contained the article?

I think the mosquito at Elvington started with a cockpit section used in the film. Bought for I think something like £7. What else survives ?
By: old eagle - 28th December 2004 at 20:42
I believe only two were destroyed….multiple shots taken of each incident, then used in both films !
John Crewdson did a great job of pulling the gear up on landing right in fron of the cameras !
All the Mossies were still active with 3 CAACU at Exeter until ( 1961?) before being wfu….one was at Liverpool (TA719?) in a damp hangar for a while before being made serviceable by Les Hillman and flown to Bovingdon for the film……and wasn’t one sawn in half vertically and put into the (IWM?)
…..but I’m sure someone else knows better than me

Oh yes! This has to be the worst bit of the whole thing. How many were destroyed over the two films?
By: benyboy - 28th December 2004 at 19:57
Did they burn real mosquitoes in the crash scenes. They look pretty real to me.
By: old eagle - 28th December 2004 at 18:38
Did no-one notice the white topped Hastings and multiple Ansons in the backgorund ??
I was on set at Bovingdon when they filmed this….it was looking then to be a heap of ***** as a film, and my thoughts became a self fulfilling prophecy
……….but it was great to see and hear the Mossies flying

Thanks Neil. Your answer was a little kurt, but I’ll forgive you! 🙂

Mosquito B.Mk.35 TA634 flew in the film
Mosquito TT.35 TA719 is a Skyfame example based at Staverton and only used for static in the film “Mosquito Squadron” – also appeared in “633 Squadron”
TA719 also had an incident:
27.07.64 G-ASKC Mosquito TT.35, Skyfame Museum, Crashed on landing, Staverton

WW
Now what ever happened to that???? 😉

Their son is still in working with warbirds and a good person with whom to see 633 Squadron if you want to learn all the details and incongruities in the film as he was around at the filming.
Peter and R were a great help to me when I researched the film for WW.

I taped it a few years ago and have never managed to put up with more than half an hour or so. If anybody sticks with it for the whole length you have my admiration – and sympathy.
Half an hour……wow 😮
I can only ever remember managing the first 10 mins or so…in fact the only bit worth watching is the openning titles sequence of the 3 Mossie’s at low level coming in over the coast, which was filmed from the back of a Shackleton MR3…..bet that was sight to see 🙂
