Most eagerly awaited Warbird restoration

Thought it might be interesting to find out what others peoples ‘most eagerly awaited’ restoration to flight status project is.

My list is:-

TFC Beaufighter
TFC Fiat CR.42
MAAM P-61 Black Widow
Seafire FR.47 at Nelson Ezell’s
Bob Jens’s Mosquito B.35
Pete Vacher’s Mk1 Hurricane

I would like to include the former Flying A, now FHC FW 190, but not sure if it will ever be flown or we’re ever likely to see it, and similarily Kermit’s Tempest V, will they really risk flying a Napier Sabre, if they ever get it running:confused: 😮

And if I really entered the realms of fantasy land I would also include:rolleyes:
The D**k Melton Walrus project
The ex-Jet Heritage Swift project

I would add Jerry Yagen’s Mossie project in NZ.

Dennis

Good man Dennis … I was flicking through this thinking exactly the same thing – what about that Kiwi Mossie?

And as for this being an old thread – so what? The question is perennially valid. And leaving Steve metaphorically buried is the last thing he would want.

There was, but it vanished.

I tend to remove any that were originally started by Steve, that’s too spooky. Sometimes however I find it quite pleasant to be reminded.

Moggy

I had not realised until i opened the thread that it was a old one, I have mixed feelings seeing any thread with Steve in them its nice to remember him but seeing his words again is upsetting too, Im thinking his and anyone elses who has passed away oppinions and writings are still relevant and valued although sadly they are no longer with us, But older threads would be better locked so new replies are not added.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Paul Allen Fw-190 completing it’s journey from the Russian forest, back to the skies over the UK. With luck, the company responsible for the restoration will complete the test flights there before they bring it back to the US. I’m hoping they put together an air-to-air photo shoot overthe English countryside, which would be even better if Allen’s Bf-109 was flying wing!

The only pity is that my favourite will not be starting with ‘Mildenhall Roger’s’ classic opening word’s in the form of ‘from the left, the Avro Vulcan B2 at which four olympus engines wind up to full power!

Bucc – Can not wait

However not offend the old school (prop) boys

Beaufighter (got to be black and got to be one of Cunningham’s )

I thought there was a guideline about resurecting old threads?

Yes I think there is JDK. I was exactly thinking the same. Some old thread have been back recently with nothing, really, added to them.

I always open these thread (that I’ve been reading before) at the last page and start reading from then on. My heart was broken when I opened this thread at the last page. When this thing was ‘in discussion’ Steve Young was alive, and his is the first post on page 2. What got me was his header. Life, Live it, love it I’m in tears now, thinking of a wonderful guy I had the pleasure of meeting for just one day in March last year, making a general fool out of myself, trying to help him and the others (you know who you are) clean an Anson at Old Warden.

I thought there was a guideline about resurecting old threads? This is about the 6th in the last few days.

Please desist.

There haven’t been since the last one crashed 40 years ago or was it in the early seventies, it was a fire bomber.

John

Thanks for the info John.

Beaufighter (TFC or Skysport)
FW189 – gone VERY quiet, this one has…
Tempest V

I have just composed a letter to the Fw189 people to try to find out the status. This is after sending them an e-mail to the adress given on the site over 2 weeks ago and hearing nothing. Going by the photos in a certain other aeroplane magasine, the centre section is coming together nicely and the engines may have been hung. But it is hard to tell and i dont know how old the photo is.

I would agree with Grant’s list, with the addition of TFC Gladiator, as I would love to see another fly, other than Shuttleworth’s Gladiator.

I would love to see MAAM’s P61 fly again.
I don’t think there are any other Black Widows flying.

Most eagerly awaited warbird

For me I’d say :-

Hawker Tempest 2
Flying A Services Seafire 3 – I saw a photo a couple of years back of it being ground run, and then nothing…
TFC Beaufighter
Flying A Services Razor back – supposedly stored in a contianer at N Weald
Kennet Gannet and Seafire.
