For me, the most embarrasing thing I have ever done was to walk into a lampost!
Ok, thats not very embarrasing I hear you say, but consider this…I was on my way to the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London to get my eyes checked! 😀

Well was running across a three lane road that came off a ring-road to get to the car park with my mates, lost my footing whilst running over an island (the road was completley clear), and whilst running halfway across the road my left leg gave way and next thing I knew i was sitting in the middle of a three lane road with my mates on one side of the road p***ing themselves laughing, with me basically dragging myself across the pavement in case any cars were coming!

On practice AOCs parade at RAF Locking, along with several hundred other Aircraft Apprentices, stood to attention for seemingly hours. I had (as usual) had a late night and, right in the middle of the front row (as always, being a shorty) could not stifle a mighty yawn. The SWO steadily marched over from his position next to the dais, jabbed me in the stomach with his pace stick and roared “Wake up, lad!!!” Several hundred giggles erupted and of course I went red as a beetroot.
This was 45 years ago but I’ve never forgotten the shame!

Ok here’s mine…
It was the first ever enrollments for our newly formed Detactched Flight of Air Cadets and as such the wing padre was invited (and accepted) to perform them. There were 4 of us that moved over to help set it up and were all NCO/SNCO’s.
During the ceremony the padre is doing a bit of a speil for the parents and so forth and I admit, I had tuned out a bit…
Padre: “I look around this room and I see years of experience in these four NCO’s. How many years expreience do you think there is Flight Sargeant?”
Me suddenly very alert: “Oh god knows!” (ARGH – I can’t say that!!!!)
Padre – straight back no pause: “I’m sure he does…”
Cue rawcous laughter and a rapidly blushing Flight Sargeant.
