Movie remakes – Top Gun 2

Or rather, sequels.

Looks like this will be happening.

Predators was a sequel, not a remake.

Crimson Tide was an interesting remake of The Bedford Incident.
Predators was another clever remake.

Hi All,
Well anybody could have seen his acceptance a mile off, I mean it’s not like he is a box office draw like he was many, many moons ago and he probably needs the money….

But he has since back tracked.

Val Kilmer created a commotion online Tuesday with a Facebook post declaring that he would reprise his role of Iceman in Top Gun 2. “Let’s fire up some fighter jets again!!!” he wrote. Hours later, he said he “jumped the top gun” with the announcement. “Being offered a role is very different from doing a role,” he wrote in his update. “[It’s] an innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent.”
Kilmer’s original post was very confusing. “I just got offered Top Gun 2 – not often you get to say ‘yes’ without reading the script,” he wrote. Then, making matters worse, he gave examples of other things he’d say “yes” to – a movie starring Gene Hackman, a film helmed by Francis Ford Coppola – but written in a way that suggested they were attached to the Top Gun sequel. Later, he posted another update clarifying that he used Coppola and Hackman only as examples and apologizing for misleading people.

Whether he does it or not, there will be no movie without Cruise, and strictly speaking they’re both too old to play combat pilots…

I’m guessing it will rely on CGI and only using real aircraft for ground scenes.
I don’t mind CGI as long as the flight dynamics are realistic (unlike Red Tails)!

Check out The Eternal Zero (or Fighter Pilot, depending on your country of origin!).

It’s really rather good.

Most modern remakes have some sort of time travel.

Include this :eagerness:

Just watched it in its entirety (it’s on YouTube) Not bad, and plenty of F-14/E3/RF8 action 🙂

Nothing wrong with the original (F-5/’Mig’ apart) it was great entertainment and did wonders for USN recruiting at the time. I wonder if North Korea will be the baddie again? Atleast they have access to proper Migs this time. I just wonder if the USN will play ball with their F/A-18’s? Will be pretty pointless if the USN is not involved.

The F5 was used as a Mig during the Red Flag exercises. It had similar characteristics. They even had Red Airforce markings…..
I did enjoy the film, purely as entertainment. I’m not that much of an anorak…….

I remember being stuck in Norway for a couple of days when the weather turned bad. All videos had gone back except one porn film ( which we soon became bored of ) and Top Gun. It must have ended up on continuous play, and the whole det ended up word perfect.

I thought the original was torture.

Didn’t it get the blame for the US Navy Aviation accident rate going through the roof soon after its release? :apologetic:

Got to admit I had a lot of fun at Miramar after the movie came out,,,It became a very high profile base with a very high profile “O” club.

As long as you treat it as entertainment, not documentary, it’s absolutely fine.
