Movies that scared you.

Obviously not too many people get scared of movies when they’re older but nobody was born old. So what movies scared you/ freaked you out at one point or another?

Island of Terror – When I was five this movie scared the sh!t out of me. Had nightmares for weeks. Some months later my mom said “hey your favorite show with the turtle monsters is on tomorrow”. I freaked out and begged her not to turn it on. (Looking back it was probably all she could do not to bust up)

The Thing – This show is still a trip.

The Ring – This was the first show since The Thing to give me a zing if you know what I mean.

Dr Strangelove.

In my last year at school, back in the 60’s, as an end of term treat we were shown a Film called Dr Strangelove. At the time this film scared me because it presented a situation which could lead too all out nuclear War. 😮

I found the Tigger Movie quite distressing. In the movie he is regularly seen bouncing around singing “wonderful thing about Tiggers, Is Tiggers are wonderful things, Their tops are made out of rubber, Their bottoms are made out of springs, They’re bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun, But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers Is I’m the only one”. This only goes to prove that the other occupants of thousand acre wood have hidden from Tigger that Tiggers are in the wild (rare I might add) and there is also a Tigger preservation effort at Port Lym zoo. This is an awful reflection on the other occupants that just seek to deny Tigger his cultural heritage and not allow him to mix with other Tiggers. I found that by showing this kind of movie to children is another attempt by the US to indoctrinate the youth of today to dismantle or undermine the multi culturism of this country. Quite scares me.

Fire from the SKY

Now this film really put the frighteners up me when I first saw it . It’s taken from a true story, regarding the Abduction by Aliens of a Lumberjack in America. Some of the scenes in this film are sureal and disgusting too look at. No other film that I have seen re this subject material can match it. If it really happened the way it was shown, it shows an intelligent being’s disregard, for lower forms of life.

NIGHT OF THE DEMON

I bet very few of you out there have heard of this film ,or seen it on TV. It is a true classic anglo American production, made when life was less complicated than it is now. Another one was the original production of The House on Haunted Hill, that had some scary moments, and also not forgetting The Haunting, which once again went for the imagination. I think Horror films are similiar to Pornography, some Horror films utilise your imagination while others leave nothing to the imagination. I can’t watch the latter anymore ,they are too extreme in the Visual sense. Is there anybody out there who disagrees with my view on this. 😮

Night of the Demon

For me , Night of the Demon really scared me when I first saw it on TV. Its filmed in Black an White which is just perfect for this film. By todays standards its a little dated, however there was no Gory violence and there are some really scary moments. Wont tell you what they are, let you find out yourself. The demon is well presented with some interesting special effects. Basically the atmosphere in the film is creepy and I will always remember a scene which made me jump , including a cold shivery sensation to boot. So for me Night of the Demon shocks, not bad for a film from the 60,s. Its great when you can use that imagination in your head, which this film used to its advantage. Its about time modern films reflected this style again, its long overdue.

I remember a film called ‘Snowbeast’ (I think) which I saw while on a caravan holiday many years ago. Mountain / snowy scenery – monster chasing and feeding on skiers etc. Only saw the whole creature during the final moments but the shadow / claws seen were bad enough.

[QUOTE=Tigercatfan]I have to agree Misery actually made me sit there and feel for that man, not scared as such but every time she went in to his room it made me want to hit her in the face with a house brick.

Good choice ,what about when she smashed his ankle with the sledgehammer 😮
