In the new ‘Pilot’ there is a news item that an ‘Airborne Assault Duxford’ centre is to be set up there. It intends to be a ‘multi media vision of UK Airborne forces from WW2 to the present.’ This is connected with the proposed disposal of Browning barracks, Aldershot which contains the Airborne Forces Museum. It doesn’t say if some or all of this is to move anywhere. There is a Dakota outside that Museum isn’t there?
Also the Red Devils Parachute display team is to be based at Duxford if a new building can be built and funded.
Duxford will be bursting at the seams soon. 🙂

Would be nice to see a DFS230, Waco or Horsa at an airshow though… Or a Hamilcar!

Maybe the team could equip itself with old green militairy parachutes so that they can play such a scene in a more authentic way at a Duxford show. It’s only a idea you see. 😉
There is large number of jump qualified re-enactors (representing British, American and German units)that are only too willing to jump in full period kit, from suitablly marked and equipped Daks or JU52’s given the opportunity….. 🙂

Just because they are based at Duxford doesn’t mean they will jump there. Plenty of flat area out by the fen’s.

As the Red devils parachute team could move to Duxford, they might consider to add a act to their invenorty. I was at La Ferte last month and saw a jump of paratroopers from a DC3 that should have represented the drop above St Mere Eglise. They all used modern, colourfull parachutes and I didn’t like that. Maybe the team could equip itself with old green militairy parachutes so that they can play such a scene in a more authentic way at a Duxford show. It’s only a idea you see. 😉

Usually they use their Islander G-ORED I believe.
We have fun near us with jumpers and gliders… Has got messy once or twice in recent years…

Does anyone know what type of aircraft the Freds use as a jumpship nowadays?
I thought these guys liked to jump out around 12,000′. As the Stansted zone has a height limit down to 2,500′, they will have to ask for special permission if they wish to go higher. Then there’s the aircraft which arrive at Duxford believing it to be Cambridge Airport to take into consideration. And all the general aviation guys who don’t take note of where the dropzones are.
This sounds like fun!

Parachutes & propellers. Hmm  . Sounds like it’s time to invest in private ambulances.
