MT818 was enjoying a rest in the hangar whilst MJ627 was a very busy bee today at Biggin. The BHHH are doing a roaring trade in the ‘Fly in a Spitfire’ flights at present.

No, this is the original Vickers-Supermarine 2 seat prototype. IIRC They built her from MkVIII MT818 & she originally was then finished yellow with the reg number N32. After that she was registered G-AIDN & went on to be used as a display aircraft by them before being purchased by John Fairey.
Is this the ex-Cliff Robertson TF-9, and where might I find it’s history. It looks to be most similar to Bill Greenwood’s Spitfire trainer that was housed in Aspen, Colorado.

There was talk a while ago of a second T.8 conversion project, but not sure whether this went anywhere.

Sorry Tink,, this one is the only Mk. 8 two seater in existence, as far as I know all other two seaters are Mk.9’s. Now that I live in the States I always wanted to get to Oregon to see her again, looks like I will have to travel a fair bit further.

Thanks for the comments chaps. Pete and BHHH made the decision to take her to Biggin to complete the flight testing as it is rather boggy on the grass here at Booker at present. I’m very relieved to say that she has performed well thus far and the Permit to Fly should be issued today. The next week or so will be spent building up some hours on her to shake-out any gremlins that might creep into the works.
From Oregon, to Kemble, to Booker, to Chelsea for ‘Masterpiece’ then on to Biggin now she’s done a fair bit of travelling, pleasing that the last journey was by air! 🙂

Ok thanks for that K4235, I’m sure Tom wouldn’t mind, infact I’m surprised that he hasn’t put anything on this thread yet.

I do love the colour of this aeroplane, not sure why but I do. Hopefully I may see flitting up through the edge of the stansted TMZ on her way to DX or back to Biggin over the summer, that routes right over the garden, yea!

Who flew her down from Booker?
By: 8674planes - 1st April 2016 at 15:10
On G-INFO it’s listed as a Spitfire VIII Trainer
