Munich's Bf.109B

I thought you might be interested to hear about progress with the restoration of the Messerschmitt Bf.109B that was recovered some years ago from the pit into which it was dumped in the Munich area.

It is being restored on behalf of the Deutsches Museum in a secure location some distance from its ultimate home at Oberschleissheim (it is not accessible to visitors unfortunately).

The restoration team are forecasting completion in 2012, which considering the severly crushed state it was in when recovered and the volunteer nature of the team, is pretty good. This incredibly rare aeroplane will be a fantastic exhibit when it is finished.

Very interesting story, thanks Steve.

Was the ‘109B the model used in the Spanish Civil War ?
