15, 17, 20 & 75 years old, all dead, a 2 year old critical. More innocents dead at the hands of some looney, What the hell is wrong with the world and were the hell did he manage to get such weapons ?
and isnt it strange that the murder of 2 people who died during what appears to be a racially motivated street attack in Italy by another lunatic doesnt get the same sort of coverage? Havent seen TV news since 6.30 but it wasnt mentioned then anyway….

Saw some photos earlier which appear to show an AK-47 or similar weapon as that used by the murderer, so certainly not legal. A Belguim friend has said that there have some serious problems with Mafia or Mafia type gangs and relatively easy access to weapons.
Whatever the reason , lack of gun control, gangs running loose etc, there are many heartbroken families and friends in Belgium tonight.

Were the weapons legally held (not the grenades, obviously)?
I’ve not really been following this story but there was some mention that the murderer already had a criminal record (possibly drugs or firearms) and had been asked to attend a police interview.

Just to clear things up here, not a racist crime. Just the act of a nutcase.
When you know the place where it took place, it is sheer luck that the death toll isn’t higher. Because of a storm that was hitting here, the Christmas market, that is located just there was closed, and due to open 30 minutes after the shooting. The place is also one of the major bus stations for the city (looks like most victims were waiting for a bus), it is also in the retail area (lots of large stores all around). In other words, had the weather been good, the area would have been dark with people.

Disgusting, appalling attack. Some of those killed were students who had just finished exams and were celebrating (this is what I have heard from a Belgian friend). I also heard that the individual responsible was an Arab (again heard from a friend in Belgium), but as for racism I don’t know, it sounds like people were targeted at random. It is a horrible thing to happen and my thoughts are with those who lost loved ones and I wish those injured a speedy recovery.
