Museo del Aire-Madrid

From now on, little by little I will be placing a series of photos I’ve taken in the air museum in Madrid, Spain.

As you can observe is not an air show, but keep real treasures inside.

Enjoy it.

Great shots Roberto.

Roberto – do you have a shot of the Dragon Rapide G-ACYR (in Olley Air Services colours if I remember correctly)?

Thank you…

I´m sorry but I couldn’t find one on my hard disk…:(

Great shots Roberto.

I went a few years back and it’s an excellent museum. It’s a direct bus from a bus station near the centre of Madrid – nice and easy.

Hey John,

It’s reasonably cheap to get to Madrid nowadays. CV is on the opposite side of the city but within easy bus/metro reach. I’d splash out and go…..!

RR

Yes, there are a nearly metro station (subway or underground:D).

Thank you for the very useful reply. I hadn’t realised that the “Buchon” had such an interesting history.

Roberto, thank you for your excellent set of pictures of a very impressive museum. I have a couple of questions for you. I assume the Miles Hawk is painted in a different scheme on each side. What is the significance of these colour schemes? What is the type of engine in the Buchon that doesn’t have the Merlin? I assume it isn’t a Daimler-Benz. Thanks in advance.

The miles Hawk major has 2 paints, one side has the colors of the republican army and the other those who flew with the national army, then served on both sides during our civil war

About the Buchon
* HA-1109-J1L – 1945 – the initial 25 Bf109 G-2 aircraft, from German production, with Hispano-Suiza 12Z-89 engines fitted, in lieu of Daimler-Benz DB 605A’s, using VDM or Escher-Wyss propellers. Not used operationally. 25 built.
* HA-1109-K1L – 1951 – first production of HA-1112-K1L. Fitted with a Hispano-Suiza 12Z-17 engine and de Havilland Hydromatic propeller in an improved installation, this version appeared in May 1951 armed with two Hispano HS-404 20mm cannon and 80mm rockets. 25 conversions from a HA-1109-J1L.
* HA-1112-K1L “Tripala” – 1951 – used operationally. 65 built (25 conversions from a HA-1109-K1L).
* HA-1109-M1L- prototype of HA-1112-M1L. A single aircraft modified with a Rolls-Royce Merlin 500-45 engine. One conversion from a HA-1112-K1L.
* HA-1110-K1L – Hispano powered two-seat trainer version. Used operationally. One built.
* HA-1110-M1L – RR Merlin powered two-seat trainer version. Project only
* HA-1111-K1L – Hispano powered two-seat trainer version with wingtip mounted fuel tanks. Project only.
* HA-1112-M1L “Buchon” – 1954 – the final variant fitted with a RR Merlin engine and armed with two Hispano HS-404 20mm cannon and 80mm rockets. Used operationally. 172 built.
* HA-1112-M4L – Merlin engined two-seat trainer. Used operationally. One built and one conversion from a HA-1110-K1L.

Thanks again for the update and a great virtual visit.
This thread has turned into a full museum catalog 🙂

Thanks!!

That was the idea, create a catalog of photographs, because this museum has an uncertain future, and do not really know how it will end, as the current museum will be demolished to build new homes and is expected to be moved, but in Spain, go you know what will happen!.

This is an interesting photo, shows the evolution of aeronautics.

In the background you can see the SNECMA Atar 9K50 engine and in the foreground the EJ-200
