Museum of Army Flying Curator

Can anyone tell me if there is a new curator now?

On my last few visits to the museum I have found that the museum was looking somewhat dated. The Beaver gate guard has some serious exfoliation and a nasty skin score . It really deserves better even if that involves an overseas sale with the money being ploughed into the internal exhibits. Internally a glaring omission
is an Auster Mk.1 which would illustrate the start of the AAC . The Auster MK.6 last time I noted was sans generator and windmill propeller -something that really could be addressed quite easily. Generally the museum needs to visit its collecting policy and see if it can be broadened slightly. A Piper L-4 would be a fine addition to the collection to illustrate a type used in mass numbers by our Allies and undoubtedly operated in the general area.
Looking at general feedback on the museum even from Army personnel reveals that the museum could try harder -I hope the new Chief Executive grasps the nettle.

Having had reason to liaise with the curator, archivist and volunteers at Middle Wallop a lot over the past year I cant give the current curator enough praise.

Without her assistance our little project probably wouldn’t have got of the ground as well as it has. Glad to hear she’s still in situ. 🙂

To be fair to the current curator she’s had a mountain to climb to get the museum up to speed with the regulations and expectations of governing and funding bodies.
The re-vamped early aviation / WW1 exhibit is the start of a make-over for the museum. The medals gallery is currently undergoing its re-vamp and the Glider Pilots area is next on the list.
The new Chief Exec is as I understand it also female and was previously with the Lancashire Fuseliers museum which has only recently undergone a major refurbishment.
I think MAF has a bright future with a professional (female) management replacing the retired Senior Officers of the past.

Thanks aeronut ! – I saw the mention of a new person at the helm and associated that with the curator position. I hope the new Chief has vision and drive to lift the museum.

If we are talking the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop and not the Australian version then the answer is yes.

Hahaha yes I always have to look twice as well.

I was talking to her last Friday and she gave no indication of leaving – she’s been there over five years so your question is slightly confusing. On the other hand the Museum Chief Executive post is about to change with the new incumbent due to arrive in the new year.
