Bad crash of a “Mustang” at Reno in 2010 – a friend of mine has said Reno has had some bad years recently.. and 2010 i recall he said was one of them?

This was a graphic demonstration of what can happen when a pilot misjudges a forced landing at Reno after an engine problem. There were a tense few minutes until it was announced that he was okay (thankfully) and I’m sure this event contributed to the decision to cancel the Unlimited Gold final due to be held afterwards because of strong winds.

Accidents happen. It’s interesting reading about them and trying to figure out the cause. Always a shame when people get hurt.
It’s sad when I think of all the people and aircraft that have been lost over the past 30 years. Fortunately the good memories far outweigh the bad ones.
Looking forward to a safe 2013.

“Comments are disabled for this video”.

Good. The amount of mouth-breathers who chime in with their insider “knowledge” on aircraft videos makes me want to beat them over the head with a shovel. Especially the ass-clown that insisted Spitfires were originally built from wood. Gotta love that one.

Maybe this will clear up the confusion. It was a Thunder Mustang Kit built plane somewhat smaller than an actual P-51.

The last few minutes have seen some real mental midgets comment on that photo.

Note all the comments from the “no attention-span” crowd asking if the pilot survived.

Down towards the end of the story below the photo are the words “My understanding is that they cut away the fuselage in the cockpit area to get George out, but the good news is that his injuries are minor considering the damage to the aircraft. “

Of course, to see that they would have had to read (shudder, gasps of horror) the words (what are those?)… sigh.

Not to mention the claims it was an RC model.

That would be a Thunder Mustang, not a P51 – before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusions.

Evidently 2010 was a bad year for that Thunder Mustang…
