talking to a guy in the bar as you do he was telling me of when he was a kid playing in a meadow very near Battle in east sussex during the war when a Mustang landed wheels up right in front of him, he said the pilot got out with blood all over his face sat on the wing and lit a ciggy , he then said Hi and gave him some chewing gum, eventually the local bobby turned up and within days the RAF took the plane away on the back of a lorry.
Now whats the best way to try and locate the the pilots name and where he was based and also the fate of the mustang. My friend whos 74 now cannot remember anymore than this but Id love to be able to give him some more details. any help appreciated.

I have the reports on all wartime air crashes in Sussex, including Police and ARP reports etc. Tell me the location (farm name, village etc) and I can give you the details without much difficulty. At the moment the details are too vague, although there is a longish list of possibilities. Andy Saunders

there be more than one forum
IMHO there are a couple of other places where your question might be answered.
Start with 12 O’clock High – numerous historians frequent it.
