Having read this thread I have to say that I am always amazed at how similar the Allison and the Merlin sound but the Griffon and DB are very different. The Griffon seems to lack the exhaust crackle of the Merlin and the DB just sounds rough as though it’s ignition timing or mixture isn’t set up properly.

Warbirds come and go and nothing is forever so thanks to the Brieghton Team for giving us the chance to see these amazing aeroplanes…..and many more to come no doubt.
If she leaves these shores then I’m sure it will be to a good home….Some we win some we loose. đ

Luton Minor?
……I’ll get my coat :diablo:
Not sure who actually owns the Luton Minor – the engine (Bristol Cherub?) is currently being rebuilt off site by one of our Flying Club members.

I’m sure there was no suggestion of abuse Chris!
Think people are just sad that she may go – she has a special place in many peoples hearts đ

Why is everybody assuming that the aircraft is leaving the country? It’s a possibility I know but at this point in time it is still owned by an individual based in the UK and it’s had two other UK based owners previously over best part of the last 20 years now.
Wherever it ends up I’m pretty sure it will have a good home, I can’t imagine somebody spending Mustang money and then abusing it.
By: low'n'slow - 1st November 2006 at 13:37
That’s right, as Yak 11 says, the former owner of the Buchon and Hurricane is an enthusiastic collector of pre-war types (including the Mew Gull, Arrow Active, Maggie, Aeronca etc etc)… expect to see the collection expand along those lines in future.

Now I am not one for remembering registrations, so upon reading the thread title thought that this Mustang was a basket case project.
Only upon taking the time to actually read what was going on, I am a little saddened to know that its the old G-SUSY, as this was the first Mustang history I researched for its owner and then of course the first Mustang that I’ve flown in.
I always feel (and I may be sad of course) that I somehow become ‘attached’ to something once I’ve placed my bottom into it.
Just hope she goes to a good home.

Dean – sounds like you’ve already fallen under the Breighton spell! Join the Club and get involved – you’ll love it!
Any pictures of your Uncle at Breighton?
Hmmm⌠Iâll have to have a think about that. I subscribe to that many things – Iâd be a rich man if I cancelled them all ;).
Unfortunately I only have one photograph of him and itâs not at Breighton â see http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63864 thereâs a copy of his postings on that thread as well; his last being Breighton. Apart from whatâs in the clubhouse, do you have any other memorabilia of 78 Sqdn?

Credit to the guy keeping some aircraft in the UK, helps to keep Historic scene over here populated.

… not ALL real aeroplanes have Merlins up front you know!
davski – I couldnât agree more ;), but Merlins do have a certain cachet donât they, and not many other piston engines manage to raise the hairs on the back of my neck! Like you say, things move on, Iâm just sorry I hadnât visited Breighton earlier to savour them a bit longer⌠ah well, Câest la vie! Will Tony be following the pre-war theme with Suzyâs replacement, when he sells her? Iâm certainly looking forward to next season⌠now I know what Iâve been missing! My late uncle flew from here with 78 Sqdn., so it seems a special place because of that, as well. Keep up the good work đ .

So Mike I take it we are not going to see a couple of Spits display over here next year then if the Buchon and Hurricane are headed to pastures new.
By: davski - 31st October 2006 at 20:11
Nice đ
Hmmm⌠that doesnât bode very well ! đ … For UK fans that is.
There certainly were more than three, and it was especially nice to see MH434⌠but only the Hurricane, Buchon & Mustang are/were resident. I was trying to imply that Breightonâs only a short drive away, and with them being resident, I could go and see them at any time. I wrote it quickly at work, so maybe it doesnât scan very well⌠Incidentally, will Janie be there next year? I look forward to seeing her again.
Dean.
There were 12 Merlins at the 2004 weekend… and 11 of them flew.
We’ve had warbird ‘heavy metal’ based at Breighton for almost 10 years – sorry if anyone missed ’em! Times change and things move on. Regardless of what happens to ‘Susy’ (remember – not sold as yet) there’s still a healthy Mustang population in the UK, and I for one can’t wait for the next Breighton season… not ALL real aeroplanes have Merlins up front you know!

Nice đ
Apparently the new owner is having a hangar built at Kissimmee at the moment. Now what to put in it…………? And the Buchon is anticipated at next year’s ‘Gathering of Mustangs and Legends’ in Ohio.
Hmmm⌠that doesnât bode very well ! đ … For UK fans that is.
I counted more than 3 merlins at the summer bash this year….

Hurricanes now moved to the road side of hanger 2. Buchin is still in the same place as in Brians photo but the new desert Spit is keeping it company.

If theyâre still over here, and it can be arranged, it would be nice to see them return for next years summer do.

Thatâs disappointing! Iâd been meaning to go to Breighton for years (never did see Taffâs pink Spit.) so I made the effort this year and went to the summer bash – Blimey it was hot! And what a show! The atmosphere and intimacy of this place is just excellent and the flying display was a pure delight⌠a tonic to Waddington, which weâd attended two weeks previously! Only an hours drive away, with three resident, Merlin engined, fighters â Great! Having been bitten by the Breighton bug I was looking forward to my next visit, so I was sad to see the Hurricane and Buchon depart⌠and now Suzyâs going! :(. I shall return, as itâs a first-rate place and a great collection, but the biggest attraction for me was the Hurricane, Buchon and Mustang. If theyâre still over here, and it can be arranged, it would be nice to see them return for next years summer do.
Iâve had this shot as my desktop wallpaper since the summer â I never tire of looking at it.
