Jack Roush, P-51 owner/pilot whose day job as a race car engine maker (and successful race team owner) has led to him producing Merlin replacement parts, was injured Tuesday in the crash of his Beech Premier jet while landing at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
On CNN video, Roush is shown exiting the aircraft under his own power. He and the sole passenger were taken to hospital. According to CNN, he’s listed in serious but stable condition. The passenger received lesser injuries.
In 2002, Roush almost lost his life when the Aircam he was piloting crashed. He was celebrating his 60th birthday by trying to fly a number of different aircraft types.
His Mustangs (and his jet) are painted in colors of the 357th FG, and he often let Bud Anderson fly his plane marked as Anderson’s Old Crow.
I had the pleasure of meeting him once at a vintage car race, quite the guy.
