My airshow 'Time-capsule'

well, the ‘borrow’ from the ‘Fab 4’… ‘It was 20 years ago…’ (sing along if you wish) and I had just returned from another great Quinte International Air Show (1987) at CFB Trenton. Several weeks later I discovered – to my horror – that I’d managed to botch 2 rolls of Black and White film in exposure and/or developing. That being said, the negs were stored and forgotten… until this past weekend. After a few hours in Photoshop and a pot of coffee later, I’ve got a few presentable images that I think this gang may enjoy.

I call this a time capsule simple because most of the aircraft pictured here are either no longer with us or simply no longer in service.

This batch:
Hurricane Y-OA Canadian Warplane Heritage (ex Strathalan)
MS502 C-FIWG (registration cancelled in 1990)
MH1521 Broussard N239HL (serial # 239 – still active)
CC129 ‘Pinocchio’
HP Victor XH671
CF116 ‘785’ 434 Sqn

thanks for that Turretboy, I remember than day well – I was in Hangar 11 when I heard the first notes out of the Lanc and ran like hell for the hot-zone fence (that was a sight to behold)… the sight and sound of that gorgeous beast come to life was unbelievable – even the squealing brakes as they nosed her ahead and pivoted to face the crowd at the fence… ahhhh (no, wait, that was ’88 VR-As first year in the air)

…gotta love the typical Trenton weather front rolling in too – alsmost the same clouds as in 92. Also reminds me of the one thing I never did like about the Trenton shows… the announcer.

Thats a sham i thought i recognised the serial number as a survivor. I am sure that she was at london airshow a few years back.

Thanks for posting!

I grew up nearby, so the airshows at Trenton have always been my favourite.

I think that I have some video coverage of an early/mid 90’s show. I should get it uploaded and post it to youtube.

There is talk of restarting the airshow again. As you probably know, with the operational commitments of the base it’s difficult for them to commit to anything.

That victor pic, isn’t she one of the surviors??

not a survivor, but she did go on to become ‘Sweet Sue’ during ‘Gulf War I’ and is immortalized in Matchbox’s (and Revell) 2003 release in 1/72…

Unfortunately not. XH671 was scrapped at Marham in 1994.

That brings back memories of a different era of aviation. Thanks for sharing them with us. Looks like the hours of photoshop and the pot of coffee worked wonders.

and part 2

A-4M Skyhawk – (first and only A4 I’ve seen)
CH-147 Chinook – (now with the KLu – this stangely enough is the only CF Chinook shot I have)
CC-109 ‘Cosmo’
A-7 Corsair II
AV-8B Harrier/CH-116 Labrador

I’m still shaking my head at the amazing array of types on that static line… others no longer in service… CT-133, CT-134 Musketeer, CP-121 Tracker, CC-137 (B707), C-141, A-6 Intruder, FB-111, Luftwaffe Alphajet A…

oh man those were fun days.
