My attempt at making a Tiger Moth Video

I put up a short video (my first attempt) on utube. Obviously you lose a lot of definition with utube.

Before the music critics get worked up, yet it has a music sound track and no Tiger Moth engine noises.

Edit note: removed URL because this version is no longer on youTube

Yes the intent was to give an impression of what it is like to fly a tiger moth.

In the UK, does the grass ever get brown and dry, I imagine not because in all the TV shows we see out here in Australia, the UK countryside always looks so green and lush.

Very nice indeed. Oh for nice warm open cockpit-flying weather here in the UK!!:D

Using a 40meg pipe here so can view the HD version, which is seriously nice. It’s as if you were there 🙂

Propstrike and others

Took on board your comments and re-edited my video and the new version on youTube

IMPORTANT – THERE ARE ON YOUTUBE IN HIGH DEFINITION TO PLAY IT BACK YOU NEED TO SELECT HIGH DEFINITION – To do this you will see a label just under the picture on the right hand side. It will allow you to toggle between normal definition and high definition.

Made quite a few changes, so I am interested to any feedback. As you might suspect I have to use the same raw files as that is all I have. I am still very green at video and on a steep learning curve.

youTube kills the resolution.

here is the text from the youTube description just for background.

“A short video of the flight of Tiger Moth VH-JRS (formally RAAF A17-300) from Kilcoy Airfield to Watts Bridge Airfield. We had just returned a Gipsy Moth to Kilcoy after some air-to-air filming and decided to make video of the return trip to from Kilcot to Watts. Visible is Mt Brisbane and Somerset Dam. This version was uploaded at 1280 x 720 6000 kbits/sec 25 frames/sec.”

cheers

OK, but not very ambitious, or imaginative. You seem to have literally just filmed whatever happened, rather than creating (directing) your own film.

You could have had a broader opening shot, in interesting light, after which the procedure of hand-swinging, close up of crew, reactions if possible, reactions of bystanders, more interesting camera angles, better range of lenses to employ, allowing wide-angle cockpit views.

A single shot is unlikely to be interesting enough to sustain for more than about 4 seconds before cutting away. Really you need some air-to-air footage, and a Tiger gives you the opportunity for some gentle aeros, which are quite photogenic with an on-board camera.

I like Scott Joplin (piano) but in this instance it adds very little, and I would suggest you think again. Sorry to sound harsh, but I am sure you will be able to come up with something pretty good with a bit more preparation and a shooting script.

The credits are hard to read, Proctor, I had to stop the vid a few times to read them.

Should I go to Specsavers?
