I thought you guys might like to here this story.
In 96′ as some of you may or may not know I went on my first helicopter ride, in a Agusta Bell Jetranger 206B.
Well tonight I was just browsing through my photo collection of pics that I have taken, and I came across the pic of this Helicopter, G-BAKS.
I thought I would see if there were any pics of it on the net, so I typed i the Reg no. into Google and did a search for it, only to my suprise, my results came back showing Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
I went on the chopper in June of 96′ at Lowfield heath Airshow, held in a field next door to LGW, well to get to the point, in November of 97′ G-BAKS crashed killing the pilot. 🙁 I was very shocked to see this!
This is the site where I found out info on its last flight/movements… http://www.aaib.dft.gov.uk/bulletin/jun98/gbaks.htm
Continuing my search, I also found out that this chopper was in a James Bond movie, where it was used by Blowfeld as a remote helicopter.

Very sad news for me to hear. The first chopper I went on is now no more. 🙁

I was on the Herald of Free Enterprise a couple of months before she sank at Zeebrugge, I know what you mean about it feeling strange… 🙁

Yes it was quite a creepy feeling. Knowing that you were on that aircraft only just over one year earlier! 🙁
It was quite an old bird though, made in 1972.

Creepy!
I was looking on Airliners.net today at photographs of aircraft which have crashed and been damaged to the extent where they are beyond repair. It seems hard to believe that one month they are flying as normal and not long later, there’s nothing left of them!
Interesting story and photograph though.
