Humm Bloodhound Photo wasn’t taken at Coltishall, looks like one of 85 Sqn ‘D’ flight sections at West Raynham which would make the date of that shot from the early to mid 1980’s. Nice photos of Coltishall though.

Would like to get some information about the biplane ‘?Y-JCV’ ?
Martin

A guess is Kenyan registration, 5Y-JCV.

As Gary says, a Grumman AgCat crop duster.

Here’s one hard at work, in the hands of Bill Bowker in the 1970s.

T4 XM990

Whats the story with Lightning T4 XM990? She looks like she has had a bit of a landing accident!

Very nostalgic shots, many thanks for sharing them. A few points:

The “B-47” is of course an RB-66B from 10 TRW Alconbury
The Javelin FAW.9 is from 11 Sqn Geilenkirchen
The Beverley is the RAE Farnborough machine, now the sole survivor
The C-119G is a Belgian Air Force machine
The FD.2 has been mentioned above, it was with RAE Bedford at the time
The Gannet AEW.3 is from 849 sqn Brawdy (happy days!)
The pair of F-101s are from 81 TFW Bentwaters
The RF-101C in the background of a colour shot is from 66 TRW Upper Heyford
The shot of a Javelin with two Hunters, includes an ETPS Hunter T.7 and a 1 Sqn FGA.9 from West Raynham

Great stuff

Nice to see the BBMF or was it BBF in those days? The flight at that time consisted of two Spit XIX’s a Spit Vb and Hurricane LF363.:D

XM190

I was thrilled to see your post with your Dad’s photos, especially the photo of Lightning XM190!

My Dad was a USAF fighter pilot on exchange duty with the RAF at Coltishall from 1964 to 1966. We lived on base and I was attending high school at Lakenheath during that time.

My Dad was attached to No. 226 Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) at Coltishall. It was during his time with the OCU that he was forced to eject from his aircraft due to an engine fire. The aircraft concerned was a Lightning F1A serial XM190, coded ‘G’. The date was 15 March 1966.

So when I saw your photo of XM190 I was elated. I’ve only been able to locate two others. I remember at the time seeing XM190 as a heap of rubble pulled from the North Sea. Is your Dad still living? Perhaps he knew my father.

Thanks for posting these – great to see. I spent a week at Coltishall c.1963 on summer camp with the A.T.C.

Thank you Crashman

Thank You crashman for sharing your Dads pics with us Lightning fans et al.

I have a particular interest in Colt Lightnings from that time as im close into XM172, XM173 and XS420 all of which served on this unit OCU.

Does anyone out ther have any “Firebirds” formn pics please?

Thanks all, Fly Safe
