Sorry it has taken me a while to get round to this – I’ve been very busy – having taken up swimming in the mornings for my health, then back home to TCB, then working for the PO in the afternoons, I don’t finish ’till 10pm, when I’m pretty knackered.
Anyway, I had a bit of a torrid time at Southend, it seems – I strongly recommend that photographers DO NOT go to the end of the pier – these are the best I could achieve with my Fuji S5000 with the 1.5x add on lens (taking maximum zoom up to 15x – whats that, about 570mm equivalence?) as far as historic aircraft are concerned – nothing worth showing of the Mustang for instance 🙁 or the T33 Shooting Star – the only sharp shot and she’s in cloud!
Hope you don’t mind the RA Hawk shot – just fills out the upload form!
I won’t repeat the Catalina shots here, they can be found elsewhere on the forum:

And anyway its not the size of your lens its what you do with it 😀
Thats right MOTF. Evrybody with a camera can take nice photos. With some luck everybody can get nice pics, sometimes even me! (I hope)
Thanks for the photos. I do like the Hawker Hunter shot in the recognizable sheme! 😎

I’m sure our arms-race 10D formation lens weilding team wouldn’t want mere humans to stop posting pics!
I am in total agreement here, keep em coming chaps. They arent a bad as you are making out.
And anyway its not the size of your lens its what you do with it 😀

Hi duxfordhawk,
The pics are fine – as Steve says, they show what it’s all about. I’m sure our arms-race 10D formation lens weilding team wouldn’t want mere humans to stop posting pics!
Keep ’em coming.
I must get a better scanner before they disappear completely

And that, of course, is why I keep them all in their original format. The pictures above have been, errrm, “manipulated”. I’m hoping that technology, and my own skills and techniques, will exist and improve in the future to recover even the blurriest shot.
I recently went through some shots I took with a pocket camera, from shows I barely remember going to, and there were some very nice objects – I don’t remember seeing a Starfighter perform, for instance, but I have fuzzy photo’s so must have seen it!

Some of the most evocative shots I’ve seen on this forum over the last few months have been the slightly snatched shots, where an aeroplane isn’t quite in focus. But you recognise the aeroplane, and it’s one you’ve not seen for some time, for whatever reason.
You might be disappointed with your shots now Rob, but in five / ten / fifteen years time, I bet you’ll look back at them with fond memories. And those memories will be razor sharp. I do like the Yak shots though, first one’s clear as a bell, second one just oozes action. Nowt wrong there mate.
