My first aviation job, and my 'new life' in Manchester!

hey all

Thought I would join the ranks beside those who have recently posted about their new jobs in the aviation industry, and tell you a little about my recent adventures. 😀

Today was my first day in my new job working at Manchester Airport. I’m working for Manchester Airport, in the Operations Performance Department, and my office is one floor below that ‘thing’ on the top of the building: (the view is amazing :diablo:, as are the people that I will be working with)

One of my roles will be to work with the airlines to try and improve the punctuality of departures in the morning rush hour, and involves a lot of performance auditing – analysing systems and processes (e.g. aircraft turnarounds) and working out how to improve them to make them more efficient.

Yesterday, I moved to my new rented accommodation in Heald Green, a village which is moreorless right next to the airport. I have aircraft on final approach to 23R whizzing past my window every few minutes. I know very little about the city of Manchester and so have a lot to see and learn!
I also bought my first car a few days ago which I drove the 200 miles from Colchester to Manchester in, after only two days of first driving the vehicle (1996 Renault Clio 1.2) so its been a hectic and life changing week or two!

I have finally been able to turn just an enthusiasm for aviation, into actually working IN the industry, something that I am very proud about. 🙂

Many congratulations, Adam! 🙂

Whilst people like you are trying to speed up the turnarounds, you have clowns like me out on the ramp trying to help you! :diablo:

I’m saying nothing, other than there’s a very small part of that sentence I agree with. 😀

thanks guys! 🙂

Congratulations, Adam! I’m happy the job worked out well for you in the end. Can I assume we’ll be seeing more of you at MAN in the coming months? 🙂

Paul

Oh, I think that is more than 100% probable, hehe. Just looking at the weeks weather forecast…….oh…..more rain.

Well done mate!

I did the same… did a HND at college, and got my 1st job at LHR for British Midland @ T1 in ’93. Drove there in a beat up Peugot 205 wearing that horrid red and grey diamond uniform! I do miss the DC9-15!! 😎

Still in the airline industry and love it. Its not a job for me, more of an extension of my hobby!!

Good Times.

Well done, Adam.

If you need someone to help you navigate your way around the various vantage points (and hostelries) around the airport, you know where to come. 😉

Welcome to the North ! Manchester is booming as a city goes, loads of things to do and see.Heald green is only a short distance from the Peak District which is full of those things called hills ( i know it was proberly a little flat where you came from) but do not be afraid they are fantastic to explore !

thanks guys!

Are you going to be involved in the new inter-airport-agency coordination scheme and/or EFAS? I think both are trialling at Manchester (might just be one or the other though I can’t remember) as I’ve had a little bit of involvement in these myself. They sound rather similar to what your job description entails!

Mark, I haven’t heard anything about that, but will let you know if it comes up 🙂

Well done Adam! Sounds like you have an ideal job with an ideal view! You seem to be good in a good position to progress up the airports management levels so maybe you are the future MD whom will build lots of facilities for spotters 😉 !
