I once brought the very badly damaged pilot’s side windscreen of 41-24485 Memphis Belle back for the Tower Museum at Bassingbourn, but the funniest event occurred a couple of years later when I air-freighted my BMW motorcycle by CP Air 74 out of Gatwick into Toronto….
At one stage we had THREE tickets issued…. Mr G M Simons, Mrs A Simons and Mr M Byke (I joke not!) but eventually the bike went into the hold on a pallet along with all our luggage, so my wife and I…. still in our motorcycle leathers effectively became walk-on passengers – but they would not let us put our crash-helmets in the hold with the bike, so we had to carry them on board…
Picture the scene – one 74 fully loaded taxies to the end of 08 LGW… just as Captain Speaking opens up the taps, two bikers down the back put their helmets on – nearly pax fill their pants, and CSM does her nut!!!
We had both lids removed from us ‘for safe keeping’ before landing!!!!
Oh well… cannot take a joke and all that!

A story told to me by an ex manager.
Comming back from the States after a management type conference.
Going through security and baggage check. Hand luggage opened to find a wooden plaque attached to which was a hand grenade.
Security Man “What’s this then?”
Manager “It’s an award for outstanding services in Management”
Security Man “How do you know it’s safe?”
Manager “Err, don’t know but I’m sure it is”
Security Man takes award, thinks and pulls pin from Grenade.
Some moments later.
Security Man “Guess it’s safe then”

I am thinking of bringing a display of windows etc to CockpitFest this year as I have quite a few
Are double glazing sales a new side line then Tony? 😀

Cool stories
I love bringing back stuff. In the 90s I cam back from Arizona with 14 x control wheels! A chap I know had a P47 complete windscreen (with quarterlights), dreamt of bringing one back for years – I brought it back last year.
The biggest thing I brought back was a DH4 prop – 7 ft long (missing part of one tip) – that nice Mr Branston let me bring it back for free!
As long as it is old enuff there is no problem.

On my first trip to the US, to OSH in 1988, one of our party brought a T-6 prop hub back as a carry-on. 🙂

Neat!
I’ve told this story before here, so if you’ve already seen it sorry…
About flying with relics…
In the mid-90s I had business at Davis-Monthan’s boneyard. Before leaving I went to one of the aircraft yards nearby and bought a tail rotor blade for a H-34/Wessex.
When I went to the airport to fly home, the nice older guy behind the TWA counter said…
“All of our planes are jets, you don’t need to bring your own propellors”.
I took it as a carry-on and while changing planes at O’Hare, caused a few looks with it draped over my shoulder.

You just need a Norden to look through it with. Any other treats come back with you?

“Imported” part
Half expected to see a wheel and tyre, Tony:D
You could always post stuff back to yourself when abroad. It can save embarrassing moments at check-in and security.
It’s a nice piece. Any history?
Anon.

came from a bunch of parts from WW2 B29s that were reworked for the Korean War. I love the B29 bowl so found such a big box, it would not fit in the xray machine! The TSA guy pulled the box apart to check it out.

B29? very wall mountable. Beats the lousy T shirt etc.

Kermit Weeks won’t be too happy with you.
What did you cut it from? 😀
