Heres another pic with the reg
This aircraft, N8418B was cancelled from the US registry on 3/30/2007 as ‘exported’ to Spain, maybe an euphemism for impounding!

Pimpernel,
the helicopter flight was about 20 mins and went to the centre of the island, back to the coast then to the air field (in a large triangle) with Islas Helicopters. www.islas-helicopters.com
Doldrums
there were movements from the airfield every day, mostly banner towing. We stopped in Puerto Rico, the airfield is about 40 mins away going north. There was also other light aircraft movements so i must assume that there is a way to hire light aircraft. You can def fly with Procast who fly from the airfield. www.procast.es or Canary Sky, email canarysky@terra.es

Canary Sky’s Piper PA31-325 Navajo

I saw the other one on departure from the aircraft. from a distance it doesnt look in any better condition. The tail feathers are missing, the tyres are flat, the paints peeling and she sits at a funny angle. Sorry no pic

Am I right in thinking these are Baby Great Lakes?
I’m too lazy to turn round and grab an aeroplane book off the shelf!
Cheers!

It looks to me like a Lake 250 Renegade. The lake corporation have a produced a range of these baby flying boats over the years.

Edited: Looking at them again, it looks as if the foreground example is a Buccaneer and the one in the background looks like a Renegade.

Still there 22 years later
Good to see the DC7 still in one piece.
My Wife and I were in Grand Canaria on honeymoon nearly 22 years ago and she was there at the time painted in Rothmans Cigarettes colours.
Shame she is decaying.

Interesting, did you happen to note the registration of that impounded Lake Renegade?

Rob
thanks for sharing those.
Did you see much movement around the aeroclub? I am off to GC for 2 weeks at the end of the month and was thinking of trying to hire a pa28 or suchlike for an hour with an instructor.

I remember seeing it in the glow from various lights on the way round the island to Playa del Ingles (?) in 1999 – often wondered what it was, but never thought I had enough info about where exactly it was to ask. Seeing it as a near-silhouette in the wee small hours didn’t help…
Funny how things turn up – thanks for posting the pics!

It was painted in “Airtours” colours in 1995.

What a sad sight to see, bit like the Shacks on Cyprus really.
Does anyone know it’s history?
I bet the chopper flight was a delight for you, was it a round the island jobbie?
Thanks for posting.
Brian.
