July 11th i happened upon this gem of a museum the Speyer Technik Museum.. http://speyer.technik-museum.de/en (apologies to mods if links arent allowed)
insane amount of aircraft outside and in various buildings..many of which you can climb aboard highlights include a genuine soviet Buran Space Shuttle and a Lufty B747 perched 50 foot up in the air!!! an AN22 and the U-9 Sub!!
I decided against the 1000 odd step climb to go in the lump (been in plenty) but did go in a few others. With not much time to play it was a bit of a dash around.
Firstly Speyer is also an active and busy GA field… just a couple before hitting the museum

The AN22… insanely large beastie!

Thanks again lads….
Have to say i never even noticed the slides on the 614 and lump!!! missed opportunity!!!:( (mind you…. it’s a loooong way down from that lump!!)
A two day visit would be best to do both Speyer and Sinsheim.. certainly you could easily spend an entire day at Speyer..there is so much more to it than what i shot in a hasty visit.

I also did both museums a few years ago and i can say they are brilliant ! The silver tubes are slides out of the airframes, you go down on basically sack bags, there is even one out of the Lufty Lump if you dare !!!

Was just reading the brochure this week making me more determined to go, but it is going to have to be a two day visit to cover both museums. Great report!:)

I love the Gannet being held up by a pile of pallets & an old matress—-a bit like some housing estates I know!!

Hi
Great pics – Thanks
Was the shot of the Russian limo inside the Antonov and was it for the big man himself or an underling? A bit sparse inside the cabin if it was the big man himself.
Quite nice the way they stick everything up in the air saves making it a huge investment in Land. They seem to keep a lot of it rust free although out in the open, wonder if they cover them with tarps. in the bad weather/winter.
Liked the Buran.:D
Jay
Jay: Cheers yes the limo was inside the AN26, dunno for whom it would have been.
I doubt they cover up the outside exhibits, i believe it is open all year round, and as can be seen on the first shot of the T-33 Shooting Star, a fair build up of moss on its wing (As well as a bird perched on its tail!!!) and D-FOXY looks a bit worse for wear. The Buran is truly impressive, got shots of the cockpit but the glass partition was quite dirty, you can also go up the back stairs of it into the rear section and lots of pics and video presentations around it.
Cheers Pieter and Vee-one (Showing your age a bit there )

Nice photos as always!

I’ve been to Sinsheim & Speyer a few years ago and back then half the collection was rusty. From the photos it looks like a good part of the collection was recently re-painted cause a few years back the planes looked in a very sorry state.

What an amazing collection of aeroplanes! Thanks for posting these. Lovely to see some old designs that I can remember when they were actively airworthy. 🙂
