My (Next) little adventure !

Hello folks.Well I am back on the forum again after a break of several months, and would like to tell you about an event that i am organizing that will take place in September this year.
Before I continue, let me just put you in the picture as to the background behind my getting involved in this charity event which came about mostly due to an event in my life which happened some 16 months ago, namely my diagnosis of Chronic Leukaemia which was picked up after i was given a routine blood test in August 2006…and at the ripe old age of 40 that came as a bit of a shock i’ll tell you ! 😉 .
After a few months in the “wilderness” which is to say that i spent some time contemplating my fate, searching for advice/answers and generally being as much use as the proverbial chocolate fireguard to my wife, i returned to work, and decided to get on with life as far as possible. It was around June the following year that i got ideas about trying to raise money for Leukaemia Research, as they had been a goldmine of usefull info and advice during the initial few months after i got the diagnosis, and so i embarked upon our first charity drive (with Teresa my wife) to visit as many NHS hospitals as was humanly possible in a 24 hour period (Titled “Roc Around the Clock”).We managed to get to 35,ended up in Kent (we set of in Mansfield !) and raised £1500 in the process.
The car we used was a 20 year old VW Scirocco (now affectionately know as “Scarlet”) which was given to me by a fella in Leicester after hearing about my plans for a 24 hour drive, and the car was due to be sold after our outing to raise more money for the charity….until the fundraising part of my brain began to flicker into life once more !:p .
To cut a long story short, in september this year I and Glen,an NHS work colleague from Kent will be taking Scarlet, the now 21 year old VW Scirocco from the UK to North Africa. We are raising money for 3 charities this time.Leukaemia research,Macmillan Cancer Support and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance (based at Waddington).
If you would like to follow our progress have a look at our online blog which is here:

I will endevour to post a few more articles onto the forum along the way.
By the way, you will see on the blog that a company called Real Simulation have donated a 1 hour simulator flight in either an F4 Phantom or a 737 to our cause although as of yet i am not sure what to do with it, but it would be a great prize for someone in a prize draw or raffle perhaps;)

Take care.Andy

Cheers guys !;) .To be honest i am quite looking forward to it really although the amount of organisation that needs to be sorted is mindblowing.I just realised that my passport ran out about 2 years ago,so thats one thing i will have to sort without delay !.Getting the car ready which involves having it resprayed, parts replaced and the manufacture of our trailer (the rear half of another donated Scirocco !)is quite time consuming, and the amount of time I spend on the PC writing blogs, sending emails and uploading pictures/video’s is also taking up an awful lot of time…especially with 3 kids running around all the time :p .
We are hoping to gat a space at the Waddington airshow this year (The Air Ambulance is stationed there), so if anyone has any strings to pull or favours to call in please feel free to help us to get a pitch…it could potentially generate a lot of loose change for 3 good causes !
Cheers.Andy
