My son/ De Havilland Museum visit tomorrow.

First of all I would like to thank the members for their concern over my son.
He was brought back in a very sorry state on Thursday, last evening we had to rush him over by ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, where after the most traumatic night of my life, he was diagnosed as having got meningitis. Fortunately he is being treated by the most amazing medical team and at the moment is doing OK. I got in a bit of a state about it today and had to come home, not having slept for a while anyway, his mum is being allowed to sleep in the room with him and when I last spoke to him, all he was worried about were the football results, but was very appreciative of the Forum members concern, honest.
So I definately won’t be there tomorrow!
He is in the heavy ward on the top floor of the hospital, we heard a real racket today that even drowned out the sound of the Addenbrooks boiler and from the top floor I could see a Hercules having a rev on the end of the runway, there was also a very nice Tiger Moth flying about all day, it’s a brilliant view from there, it’s just the circumstances and the nature of the wards.
Hope you all have a good day out tomorrow an I hope to meet up some happier time.

Just to inform you that after a few more downers, including a blocked pipe, my son was sent home to his mothers yesterday, it’s a bit quiter there, no dogs and I’ve just had my central heating boiler in bits as it’s not been happy, but he’s coming over here in a few days.
I gather that he has been making up for the state of the hospital food, but I saw him last night and you wouldn’t believe that he had been so seriously ill, it’s his mum and I that are the emotionally damaged one’s, we’re knackered.
In case anyone has any kids or relatives at Derby Hall, Nottingham University, the powers that be have jumped into action and issued everyone on three floors of the hall with preventative tablets, unfortunately! my son is very popular and everyone had been partying in his room for a few days before the illness. The prof suspects that he had a bad virus that mutated into meningitis after a few days, otherwise he would have been dead in a couple of days without treatment, harrowing thought, I think he is a lucky lad, and I’m a lucky dad.
Thanks for the offer of the trip round the museum, but as I said previously, his only interest in aviation is the drinks trolley on Easy Jet, shame, considering some of the stunning airshows that I’ve taken him to, but that’s modern youth for you, Ollie must be an exception.
Thanks again for your support chaps.
Pete.

Good news Pete, hope he continues to improve.

BTW, when I flew with Marshalls flying club from Cambridge, we based our visibility to fly decisions on whether we could see Addenbrookes from the crew room……

Just an update to tell you that my son is out of danger and doing well. On Tuesday they took him to surgery and inserted a tube into his arm that pumps anti-biotics straight into his heart. I gather that he will remain in his special room for another 10 days then come home. He was very perky yesterday and is now able to get out of bed, all he was interested in was trying to stay awake to watch match of the day.
There’s a good view of Duxford from his window, I told him that it’s a pity he wasn’t ill during a display, we would have had an interesting view.
Thanks for all your concerns.
Pete.

Hope things go well.
When my daughter was in Hinchinbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon a Meningitus case came in, they double checked every part of the treatment with Addenbrookes, it is very highly rated.

Hope he has a speedy recovery. It was very fortunate that it was spotted soon enough.

No doubt they are very worrying times for you, but at least he is in hospital and receiving treatment.

I picked up a viral infection and have spent the week with hot and cold shivers and a severe throat infection. It must be bad ‘cos I’ve not had a beer or wine for 8 days. I had intended to go to the DH Museum but as I am still signed of work and still feeling crap I won’t make it. On the up side I have a couple of University assignments to be handed in that are overdue and will get chance to get them done. Amazing what students will do to get an extension on their assignments. 😀 I hope your son is able to get back to health and then tackle his course without having got too far behind.

regards
