…and my wife is strictly against it. I wouldn’t imagine that it would be any more dangerous for him than taking him to a Premier League soccer match. Of course anyone could get into trouble at any rock concert but he’s only a kid (of course I’d go with him). I don’t think the average Iron Maiden fan is likely to do anybody any harm. Correct?

Peter
It’s nice you want to go with your son.
And it’s sweet that your wife is concerned.
After all the bad stories we get in the media, it’s great to see parents who get involved and care about what their children do.
Your son is a lucky boy.

Absolutely go see them…..I saw them with about a 100,000 other people in Sheffield, I thought there would be loads of trouble but guess what……there was 99,999 other people that went for the same reason as me MAIDEN!!!! so no bother at all. I didnt even see much of a police presence but KFC did burn down…
If your slightly unsure just go see them at an arena where theres seating outside the pitt
OH and if you ever see Bruce kicking about anywhere just say hello hes a very friendly guy as i’m sure the rest of the band are

I saw them at Twickenham a couple of years ago, i was sat in the seats on the side, loads of young teenagers there around us but all enjoying themselves and were really well behaved, the rest of the people were upwards of 30+ and just as well behaved !
Of course if you are within the first 50ft or so of the stage (the mosh pit) you will get jostled around a bit and have to jump with the crowd, otherwise i reckon you will be fine.

It seems that it can be another problem… Maybe it’s she who wants to go to Iron Maiden with your son…

I’d guess the bulk of the Iron Maiden audience would be too worried about losing their zimmer frames to cause much in the way of aggro?
Moggy
I see it that way, too – I just need to convince the wife about it.
My son is 13; he didn’t get his admiration for Iron maiden and their music from me. First of all – when I was 13 my parents would never have taken me to a rock concert! When was old enough to go on my own (or usually with my brother and some friends) we went to see bands like Genesis, Supertramp, Pink Floyd and Queen and the rest. I saw Queen five times!:D
When I was 13 though, I worshipped Marc Bolan! At school the “big boys” listened to bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath; stuff you usually wouldn’t hear on the radio; at least not here.
It is funny though: in my days the “stars” were only slightly older than me. Today, however, for my son the “stars” are even older than his Dad!
No doubt we’ll see one of the Iron maiden gigs; most likely in Oberhausen.
I’ll let you know what it was like.

Only saw Maiden once, they were supporting act for Thin Lizzy at the Hammersmith Odeon.. partied a bit too much & was escorted out before Thin Lizzy even left the dressing rooms…can’t remember what Maiden sounded like either 🙁
Man, that was a looooong time ago….

seen them live twice, once in newcastle which was an amazing show, never seen anything like it to be honest, bruce certainly knows how to get the crowd moving 🙂 especially with a 20ft tall eddy walking on stage 😀
again at download festival in 2007, 10pm at night, lying on the grass as the sun is setting, listening to maiden live, awesome, singing along with thousands of other people to the likes of fear of the dark, run to the hills and aces high, brilliant 🙂
im sure there wont be any problems peter 🙂
i forgot to add, we also saw bruce flying in, right over our heads in the bands iron maiden livery 737 🙂

Not seen them live myself (dammit!) but I thought I’d post this long-term favourite video – the very thing that got me into Maiden in the first place!
By: ZRX61 - 13th January 2011 at 21:36
My daughter is 13, so far she has seen ZZtop (twice) Lynyrd Skynyrd, Heart, The Doors (well, half of em) Ted Nugent, Foreigner, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Dio, Journey, & Cheap Trick.. There’s a few others I’m forgetting

Seen Maiden thrice…. brilliant musical experience. 🙂

Endorse all the above, absolutely. Apart from the people knocking them. LISTEN TO IT.
Positives. Clean band, they don’t even get drunk! Watch the video of the 666 tour, when Brucey piloted it all.
Their music is great rock. Lyrics can be heard, and do not swear.
“If metalheads ruled the World, there would be a lot of songs about Death, but there would be no Death” Quote Bruce Dickinson, Sonisphere 2010. Sums up the general crowd in my opinion.
Buy the greatest hits, learn the words! It’s far more fun to singalong with 60,000 people. Especially to “Afraid of the Dark”.
Damn, I wanna go again this year!
But, let’s get a bit real…..
There is always going to be some scally that will take the opportunity of occupied people and go pick-pocketing. So, take precautions.
If you go to the very front, there may be a bit of squashing. There may even be a bit of Mosh pitting, which could spill into bodies falling over and hitting you. However, the Irons frown on moshing, and heard once that they stopped playing, refused to carry on if the moshing continued. But I take it you are going on this years tour? The crowd will be all Maiden fans, most of which are now too old and too sensible to mosh LoL!
It is highly unlikely, very highly unlikely that there will be a fight.

Cracking live band, and I’ll happily endorse the positive comments above.

In the same way “Belgium” and “Fun” Could be put in the same sentence….?
Personal opinions are everything, I dont think they would sell multi multi millions if there werent good.
By: frankvw - 13th January 2011 at 19:42
Thread moved.
On a sidenote… Did you really put Iron Maiden and concert ( an event where music is played) in the same sentence ? :dev2:
By: Nashio966 - 13th January 2011 at 19:27
Totally agree with all of the above
Pete how old is your son?
At the end of the day, Iron Maiden are a good band, clean in terms of lyrics and put on a damn good show.
I remember my mum being firmly against me going to any gigs at all lol – until she came with me once and then never came again :diablo:
Ive been to more gigs than I can remember almost all of which are heavy metal – about 50 festivals now (including reading) and I can happily say (touch wood) I have NEVER had a problem at any gig/festival I have ever been to.
I would be far FAR more concerned about a son/daughter of mine going to a rave. raves are a major source of drugs/chavs/fighting/crap music 🙂
Mainly how old is your son and how do you feel about maiden?
By: Blue_2 - 13th January 2011 at 19:20
Peter, if its any reassurance I’ve seen them. And I’d be far happier if a kid of mine wanted to go see them rather than some other bands I could mention! Not only was it an awesome show with an amazing atmosphere, but there wasn’t even the tiniest hint of any trouble. Everyone’s there for the same thing, after all… Go, enjoy, prepare to leave deaf but happy! 😀
