An email to Ollie is winging it’s way across the ether, giving him a pat on the back and wishing him well. 🙂
This forum IS Ollie . . .and me . . .and you guys. Blimey I’m going to stick up for him if no-one else will. I like all of you folks 😮 , you are all really interesting, authorative people 😎 , but I hate seeing an individual getting a regular bashing.
I don’t read what doesn’t take my fancy – and so never get annoyed about anyone ! 😉
Cheers guys,
Andy.

This seems an appropriate point at which to draw this matter to a close.
Any further comments by PM, please.

Thank you guys, its nice to see someone actualy defending me. It seems to me that it is a small few that have a problem with me. I do mlisten and respect you guys as alot of you have been here alot longer than i have, a fair amount seem involved in the historic warbird movement and we even seem to have a few operators here. I have a great deal of respect for the guys and girls that do that. Alot of you are volounters and choose to do it. I do try to get to old warden but so far it has not been possible. I would love to meet some of you people, im sure we will meet sometime in 2006.
And yes as someone pointed out without people of my age showing an interest (there seems to be an ever decreasing interest from people my age) alot of knowledge would be lost. It would be a great shame to loose alot of it.

Im new to this forum, and before my first post I read some of the responses to Ollie’s postings and I have to say it really put me off using the forum. People seem to take offence quickly here, and some of the messages being banded about seemed very personal. This is an open forum and anyone can read these messages. That makes it much more personal than a PM.

Unfortunately, I have been away over christmas and haven’t seen these posts. I would also like to point out that having been interested in aviation for 18 years (my whole life in short) I have only a fraction of the knowledge that Ollie seems to have gained (I do concentrate mostly on the Battle of Britain rather that any other time in the history of aviation so that probably explains why).
Also, the only reason that my posts are not full of spelling mistakes and typing errors (there are of course some that do get through un-noticed by myself) is because I check my posts before I actually post them. Otherwise I would be just as bad 🙂 Mark 🙂 🙂 🙂
WHERE IS OLLIE ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!! HE HASN’T GONE HAS HE???????? 😮 😮 😮

Here here….
If we don’t encourage the younger generations to get involved / interested in historical aviation – we’re going to be in the situation in the future of having no-one to continue the work of others in the field, and reading the recent posts demeaning this poor individual has made depressing reading. I volunteer in a Museum myself (when time permits) where we encourage the younger generation to get involved…..
I would personaly love Ollie to meet up and see for himself what is involved in conservation of our heritage etc…. hopefully then taking steps to commit some time at a convenient place to persue his obvious interest in aviation in a meaningful manner. We all find it incredibly easy to be siting infront of our PC’s writing on this forum in the comfort of our own home, but how many have actually taken it one step further and “got their hands dirty” etc….
The recent forum discussions centered around Ollie have shown how easy it is to run down one individual by comments made – and that is the bad side to the huge world wide web I’m afraid…..
I’m amazed that a moderator hadn’t stepped in sooner and stopped the comments.
Ok, off my soap box now.

Quite right………I agree with megalith on this one………..
………..I do listen to advice however but whether or not I take it on board is another thing.

Advice is free and very easy to give, I was given stacks in my teens, much of it conflicting. Did I take it – No way, like most of us I thought I new better and learnt by my mistakes, and I’m very glad I did its meant I’ve grown up to be me and not who others thought I should be.
Yes I can see that bad spelling annoys some people, but this is NOT a spelling forum, also we must expect less experienced people to ask what might seem like stupid questions.
Ollie’s young, keen and full of ideas as youth often is. Ok he hasn’t yet got the experience to realise them. But we should be nurturing not bashing him. That said I have to commend KEV35 for inviting Ollie to meet with him, as this is probabling just what he needs a bit of mentoring.
