Just read on a-net that Mytravel are to retire the DC10-10s at the end of September.
I haven’t heard this anywhere else so I wonder if anyone can confirm it here??
Would be a sad day if those went as I can’t think of any British Registered DC10s still flying other than these.:(

Still sad to see them like that though. But its good they are still using the 30s. We should be glad at any airline keeps trijets in the air

Northwest DC10s will be in service for some time yet – at least 2 years is my guess.
The pcitures there are the retired -40s which left service last year I think. As far as I’m aware, all the -30s are still in service and will be for sometime. Some have suggested the -30s could be around until at least 2007, but I think 2005 is more likely. Many of the -30s were built around 87/88 so actually aren’t that old, (relatively) though I think some still exist from the mid-70s.

Northwest is getting ready for the introduction of A330 by retiring it’s DC10 fleet

the DC-10s are only based at MAN and LGW – 3 up north, 1 at LGW in the main G-TAOS I believe which is a DC-10-10. I’ve flown G-TDTW which was a great sub for the 752!

If you want to see a good picture of a MYT A330 visit www.mytravelairways.dk

Id say the 757 looked pretty sleek in that c/s too.

I can’t remember the 742 looking good at all, old Air NewZealand livery and the airtours tail – ewwwww!
If its gonna cost to keep the DC-10s airworthy etc then surely its going to make better financial sense to sell them on for freight use or scrap them. Afterall, JMC got rid of their two examples and just recently Monarch gave up the ghost on their sole aircraft!
I say more A330’s or 763’s – i thought that the 767-300 was easily the only aircraft type in the fleet which suited the old Airtours livery, anyone care to agree or disagree?!?!

I remember the Air NZ 747. I saw it at Man the day I went to Cyprus in 98. I have some pictures somewhere but ive lost em. It looked bloody good though.

Matt your MyTravel looked briliant.Saying that you did paint it up in the full c/s.
By: SOFTLAD - 7th August 2003 at 22:08
No a/c are to be painted at the moment due to cost saving. But all the new A320 and A321 a/c will be delivered in the new colours.Shame but needs must.

Do you think they’ll put any more planes through the paint shop ?

Thanks Softlad.
So we know anything more about the replacements yet? You mentioned 767s earlier, and on a-net there is even a mention of rumoured 747s (which I just can’t see).

As i understand it we own the 10-10,s outright so there is no issue with the leasing company.I am told that the 3 a/c need major work to keep their COA and the main thing is that they all need to be completly re-wired which has to be an expensive job.As the company is trying to save money in ever area i guess its not worth it to have the work done ?
By: Pembo330 - 7th August 2003 at 21:29
Which begs the question Wys, why MYT are getting rid of them?
By: wysiwyg - 7th August 2003 at 19:25
The TriStars were disposed of at the time of the merger but the 2 DC10’s were transferred. If the leasing companies were prepared to let us keep G-LYON for $100,000 a month I can’t imagine what small amount they must be asking for to pursuade MYT to keep their DC10-10’s.

Can’t find a JMC coloured Tristar, but what about this for a hybrid scheme… Aer Lingus meets Caledonian. They should have formed a Celtic Airways or something like that.:D
