Griffon-engined Spitfires in their natural environement – bloody marvelous 😀 😀 😀 😀

Spitfire Wallpaper

…and if you want your tired old eyes to be able to read the the ‘icons’ try this.

Legends last year, a fleeting undoctered image of nine Spitfires with not one aircrew, groundcrew or vehicle in sight and taken with the aircraft low with wallpaper in mind.

Wallpaper

Here’s mine,

A bit modern for this forum perhaps, but its applicable to this thread!

Taken by me on departures day at Fairford 2003. Both aircraft
performed vertical climbs shortly after take off.
Cant you just feel the power?!

Hi Mike,
Yes…. & No.

You might find soimeone to ‘walk you through it’ over the net. Or go to a free computer centre, and they’ll show you how. I run a ‘UK Online centre’ about 1/2 hour from where you are. PM me if you want to know more!

Cheers

All that shot needs is a heavy either side with ground crawling all over them, very moody

If I’m not mistaken a company modified them and flies them over the Grand Canyon with tourists. Not 100% sure if they were H-19’s but I saw it on discovery a few years ago.

Thanks for the info, 334_Pegasus.

I believe the H-19/S-55 was an important helicopter being the first “real” troop transport chopper as well as the basis for the Whirlwind.

Wonder how many are still flying ?

nice pic, 334_Pegasus.

Row of S-55’s scrapped.

Assume that was taken at Davis-Montan AFB ?

My life long dream is to go and visit there. I shall do it one day !!

Actually it was taken at a place called Chandler Memorial in Arizona last year. It’s not too far from DM.
There’s also a bunch of ex USAF C-130’s for firefighting and loads of old propliners. Have a search on airliners.net
Wonder why but this place really had dozens and dozens of these H-19’s in a compound.

And yes, DM is very impressive. I flew over it for the first time last August and it was amazing.
