“Tankbarrell” reminded me, I am sure I have seen very similar flame dampers on Army tanks.
Pete
Tanks usually have just a fishtail to redirect the flow and it’s not like any I have seen.

X wing fighter – lower blaster shield
sorry – couldn’t resist
i know i should know better but i was all bombed out, go on give me a rocket.
Looks more like the thermal exhaust port from a Y-Wing.

Are you sure that it is an exhaust part?
With its shape, could it be some kind of aerial, or vent for cooling purposes?
It doesn’t look like any exhaust system I’ve seen.

What is this item made of, from the pictures it looks like stainless that has been grit blasted which seems an unlikely material to have used in wartime.
Richard
Usually Inconel, which has a similar appearance to SS.

Quite common in exhausts and other parts of aircraft at the time.

Just a guess…..but that looks like a flame damper fitted to Hurricane/Defiant night fighters early on in the 1940/1…
Can you provide a pic of what you are thinking of? All the Defiant exhausts (and Hurricane for that matter) I’m aware of are variations on the ejector exhausts we all know, with in some cases separate flat plate glare shields on the cowl. Unless you are saying different?
