Mystery aircraft part?

I found this single piece on a beach 5 miles north of Montrose. Can anyone confirm if this item is an aircraft part or identify what part it is and what type of aircraft it’s from? It’s asking a lot I know but I found it in the early 90s and it’s been bothering me ever since.
Thanks

Thanks for the information. I found the part in the early 90s and I know there are a fair number of aircraft wrecks in the sea in this area. A very good reference is “Off Scotland” by Ian G Whittaker. It covers all types of losses at sea. I suspected the part was from an aircraft from the light construction, multiple fasteners, sandwiched rubber and canvas material and the wired fastener (see below). I’d have put money on it.

Yes, its a piece of fuel tank – from a British aircraft, so that narrows it down!

As Elliott says – any part nos?

Looks like an aircraft part to me – those rivets look like de Beurgue fasteners used on the Whitley fuel tanks (and other aircraft). Are they stainless steel? Your best bet is to clean it up and have a look for a part number…

Many aircraft came down in the sea off Montrose including a few Whitleys.

Does not look like aircraft to me either. Why do you think its from an aircraft, when it was found on a beach?

With those rivets and bracket it looks more like a part from a boat or ship to me rather than an aeroplane.!
